Well heres the thread finally with some pics of my card. I want do do the gpu mod (not sure real name) and not memory right now just from what people have said it can do to your card so easily. I also need to know what kind of resistors or whatever i need to pick up and if theres and wire you guys prefer over other. Im a noob to doing volt mods so bear with me i guess.

Heres the back of the card --

And heres the top of the card --

You will probably need to zoom in on the images so you can read the points but thats about it.

Ahhh sorry about them being so big--click on them for normal size/right click and view image.

Oh and i have the R360 core and hynix memory.

Post this in the volt modding section, i am sure you'll get a responce there quicker then here :p

Thank you. Its a Fugifilm FinePix S7000, works pretty well.

{back on track} Any mod do you think you could move this too volt modding section--I accidently posted it in here.

PM JoT or SSS with the link, they will move it for you.

i did the mods u speak of.i used 20k pots on both so i could adjust voltage.U should be able to hit 520 overclock on core,840 mem.
i run about 60c on the core with water and pelt, not sure what the temps would be with air.I would assume higher though..

Yeah, if i have to ill just get water cooling for the card and probably the cpu too, but thats if i have too. I think itd be pretty cool if i could hit 520 core on air.

What card is that?

I think its a 9800 pro, not sure though

It looks like it has 256MB of RAM, so if it does, it can't be a 9800P.

No, its a 9800 pro 256 mb 256 bit. Its flashed to an xt though.

Well thanks too mtb856. He found a guide for my pcb :).

http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=3&var1=111&var2=0

And i found the exact points on my card as shown here.
Im almost positive this is the voltage check point.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/plobby/checkpoint.jpg

And here is the R1597 resistor.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/plobby/R1597.jpg

What i need to know is should i get the 10 or 20 ohm variable resistor? And do you guys know of any type of solder that works better than others and on the resistor do i only solder the very edges and not in the center or is it fine if the wire touches the whole resistor?

Oh and is there any 'special' wire that is 'better' than other. I dont know if there is or isnt. But i guess i will ask before i screw uo my card so it has a nice death :P

Ive also seen the resistors with two wires going to the same point. Is there a ground wire and if there is can someone point out where i should put it. Also if there isnt whats the point of the second wire?

resistors are like this ------oooo------
they have an in and an out, so to speak. You dont want to solder in the middle, you need to go to either one side, or both sides, not sure cause i dont know how to voltmod.

20k resistors work well on both mods, and yes that is the voltage check point for the core..

When I soldered the wires on, I used solid core speaker wire that was insulated already. Then I tinned the exposed speaker wire and then soldered it on the chip that way...... less chance of solder dripping on the board if you just tin the wire and then solder it that way. After the joints were done, I used hot glue and covered the joint and glued the resistor to the card to make sure the mod didn't come loose at some point.

I used a 10k ohm resistor, but from what I've been hearing the 20k ohm is better.

Thank you both. I just need to go buy the resistors, and actually i have 50 feet solid core insulated speaker wire right below me. What i really need to know right now is do i put one wire on one end of the resistor on the card and one wire on the other side? Is there like a positive and a negative?

The resistor will come with 3 legs on it, you only need the two that are closest to the screw.......... doesn't matter which one you solder to which part.

if you look in my link in sig all 4 of the mods i did to an old 9800pro.I used speaker wire,it worked well and looks good as well...

I see, so pretty much what i have to do is take one speaker wire and solder or whatever it to one of the points on the resistor closest to the screw and do the same with the other wire. And it doesnt matter where the two wires go on the left or right side of the resistor on the card.

Yes u just saw that. I have 16 guage speaker wire, this should work if i cut off a little bit of the wire so itll be thinner. Other than that and me getting the resistors i should be fine.

I was also wonder would cat-5 wire work?

mtb856

No, it won't matter which side of the resistor on the vidcard that you solder to. I believe that I actually soldered to the back of a resistor in my mod....... the resistor was on the bottom of the card, so I just ended up soldering to the solder joint under the resistor. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine though.

Alright, ill do that. Im hoping i can do this this saturday. Its just a matter of me getting the resistors. Is there any specific store that should have them.

Radioshack has them, that's where I bought mine

I actually JUST got back from there. And they did have them They only had the 10k pot though. Oh well. I also just measured the voltage on my card and it measured as 1.785 which is good. So hopefully all goes well this saturday.

Im still wondering if cat-5 cable will work for the wire?

Dont use 16 gauge speaker wire, cat5 will work but its 24AWG which is still big and its a pain, just strip some 28 or 30AWG IDE cable wire and use that :)

Good idea, i think ill do that. I was talking to D]g[t's and he said the cat-5 might break off some stuff cause its so stiff.

Well things arent going too well right now. Well i had a bad bios flash leaving me with a blank screen and luckily i had a pci video card to help me fix it. So it booted into my freshly installed windows just fine, did all the updates and everything. Then i took it out to do the v-mod with a friend and we ran out of time to do it so we didnt do it. So he left and i stuck my card back in the comp and i get a bunch of lines and everything all over the screen and it would just freeze up and wouldnt go past the post. So i figured the heatsink isnt on all the way but wasnt sure what was causing all the crap over the screen. So i tighten the heatsink and thats what was cauing it to lock up.

So as its going into windows i get a blue screen of death and it reboots :eh?:. Uh oh. :/ So i reinstall windows just fine but with lines and random stuff all over the screen, the install goes just fine luckily. So i go into windows download the catalyst drivers and windows updates and then i reboot and nothing. It goes to the welcome screen of windows and the screen just goes blank. :bang head

So im not sure right now whats going on but thats all that is happening. I really hope its a bad bios right now otherwise i have no idea what it is unless static hit it while it was outside the case which i am un aware of.

So right now things arent looking too good and i currently dont have the money to replace the card although a x800 does look pretty nice :p. Other than that right now im going to re flash the bios tomorrow hopefull, and i really hope that will fix it.
