I installed DirectX 8.1 RC1 yesterday, after having had DirectX 8.1 Interim 3 Build 0682 working fine since that version was leaked.
I am finding RC1 to be very unstable. Yes, I know it is beta software, and I know it is my own fault for using it, but I was wondering if anybody was having the same problem:
Anything that uses direct draw (tv card, dvd's etc) will cause the computer go to a blue screen for about 1-2 seconds, then the computer resets itself. The crashes also appear to be random, sometimes direct draw will work for an hour or so then crash, sometimes it will work for only a few seconds.
I returned to DirectX 8.1 Interim 3 Build 0682 and all was well again, but I am worried it is about to expire!
PIII 1Ghz 512MB RAM
ELSA GeForce 3 with 21.81 drivers.
Windows 2000 SP2.
