I have been having problems with this puter, It's an Acer
about 4 years old. I ran the Acer disk and chose total
rebuild.(they claim this will restore it to it's origonal con-
dition). After reformat, reinstall, etc. windows detects
hardware and installs drivers. But!! It installs all onboard
devices but will not detect modem or printer. I tried select
from list and have disk, i get (no information at specified
location) message. WSUPP?? Can anyone tell me how to
install modem.

Do you have modem drivers? If its a new modem, windows won't have the drivers for it, and you need to copy the driver files to your hard drive and use that as your 'have disk'. At least, that's how I set up my modem....

First step is to ID the modem....Once you have the modem ID then you can get the correct drivers for it. Most newer modems will show up in the device manager as "PCI communications device" with a yellow mark beside them. Right click on it and select properties. Select update driver and have disk. Point the computer to where your driver inf file is....usually a: if on a floppy. Windows will load the new drivers and detect the new hardware. After all is done go to the control panel and select the modem icon. Check the modem fuction here.
