Hi,
I just wanted to make a little post about my experience with overclocking my Duron 850.
I first left the stock fan on it (supposedly up to 1gig) and i got a stable 1gig chip with 1.70 core voltage at 10x100. but it was running a little hot... just under 60c on full load.
I tried all kinds of settings for voltage and multipliers but found this was the best setting and that 133 FSB simply wont work.
I think this is because some durons are 133/266 and some are 100/200, is this right?
Anyway i went out and bought another standard fan (because thier goin cheep, like a budgie) but this time i bought the one thats reccomended for up to a 1.5gig athlon and it works a treat.
My cpu never seems to go over 45c now. due to the 2000 RPM fan increase, even though i now have white paste instead of silver.
ANYWAY TO THE MAIN POINT OF THIS POST
I slapped sisoft sandra on the comp to view my cpu stats and noticed something that upset me a little,
Under CPU information the model of my duron is:
Duron (spitfire) 600-1g 1.5-1.7v
If this means what i think it means then AMD is selling the same CPU with just different bridge settings and i would have saved money from buying a 600 with exactly the same results.
Sisoft sandra should be looked at by anyone who has a duron and maybe an athlon too before overclocking commences to see what the chip actually is safely capable of, it even tells u the core voltage of the optimal setting.
Does anyone have sisoft sandra and an athlon 1.4 or suchlike to tell me if its the same and which i should buy to get up to 1.4
IE does it say:
Athlon(model) 1-1.4g (voltage -voltage)
In which case ill buy a 1gig athlon and clock it to have a safe overclock for less money that doesnt go over manufacturers cpu spec (bieng up to 1.4).
Anyway ive board u all enuf
Cheers
