Hey guys.. I need a hand..

I'm planning on upgrading ever so slightly. My mobo takes max pc3200 ddr400. I've been looking into upgrading, as right now I have value ram, and it is not very overclock friendly.

I have it pretty much down to two sets of ram.

Geil -> http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=3279&mcid=11

or

OCZ-> http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=2056&mcid=11

Both look pretty good in spec, but there's a considerable difference in price. Would the geil be a whole lot better, or would the difference be marginal?

Also to keep in mind, is that I'm upgrading, again, ever so slightly, my current 2.4 800fsb to a 2.8 800 fsb and I plan to oc it.

Thanks for any responses!

You can get the new OCZ BH5 for $239 at www.genitechcomputers.com :p Those 2 POS you listed are just that. :santa:http://www.genitechcomputers.com/pr...0-400mhz_dual_channel_gold_edition/index.html

^ keep in mind the prices stated above are in Canadian funds.

The ram you posted is nice certainly, but I'm not willing to spend that much. Plus, the post I made is hilighting ram from a store in town. meaning, no shipping. And how are they POS?

and btw, my board says it takes pc3200 ddr 400, but if I were to buy ddr2 ram would it still work in my board?

Those are in canadian funds but no shipping for you is too bad :p
You'll probably get luck with these modules i listed here:
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=2104
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=1420

^ why would you not go with the modules I listed above? any particular reason??

I want to spend in and around 200 dollars. The reason I listed that geil originally, is because I have another source that I can get it from for around 200 bucks. Would the geil be worth it for about 100 cheaper than listed in that store ya think?

Thanks for your help Mr Cooper :)

Because on the modules i listed, you might have a slight chance on getting some BH5's without pulling a muscle on your leg. :p Before you make your decision give these thread a look, so you have a better idea on what kind of ic's these kit uses. So if you decide ot overclock them, You know your getting what you pay for :)

Man I wished you can order some of that stuff at genitechcomputers. They are one of the best canadian online retailers around. Those prices of BH5 are cheap compare to the old pricing. :p

I've been hearing good things about these Muskins

Those are Samsung TCCD ram with Jedec pcb and please give me a link to where have you heard good results with :santa:

He's running an intel setup so a BH5 is in question here :p

^ I'm not quite gathering what you mean by BH5?

Keep in mind that this is just a small upgrade.. almost anything I get will be better than the Kingston ValueRAM I have ATM.. so it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest.

No...DDR2 and DDR1 are not compatible...you have to use DDR1 with your board..

And the OCZ you posted in your first link is just fine...

As for being BH5...if your board can not support past 3.1v on the DIMM...BH/UTT is a waste...TCCD would be better...

BH? UTT? TCCD? whu!?!?!

I've never heard of these terms.. came someone give me a quick info on any of em?
I don't beleive my mainboard supports over 2volts to the ram, so TCCD it is I guess?!?

I personally wanna grab the Geil ones.. but if you think the OCZ ones will be better in my case, than I'll place an order.

As I mentioned I have two sticks of kingston value ram and I wanna sell em and get a new set since I overclock.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

You are probably thinking of CPU at 2v...because default for DDR1 is 2.6v ;)...so your system might be able to go up to 2.9v or so for the DIMMS...

UTT/BH is pretty much the same chips...they just need voltage past 3.1v to achieve the tight timings at high HT...

TCCD is the newest chips out...they can run at very high HT's with lower voltage...around 2.9v or so with looser timings...

The reason why at lot of people tend to run UTT/BH is because they like to run at tight timings (2-2-2) up to around 270HT...compiared to running at 270 with 3-3-2.5 timings that TCCD can give...

The key thing about the TCCD's chips are...most will go over 300HT while the UTT/BH's max out between 250 - 270...while some very rare cases will run at 300HT with loose timings..

Viro,

Are you playing with me or what. :p You just said on your other post that a semi little upgrade your going with and now you want to overclock.;;)

Samsung TCCD is the latest and greatest from samsung and mostly great on high fsb with low voltage and is best if your running an amd rig because it can take full potential of the ram with some nice latency 2.5-3-3 280+

BH5/UTT is like the crack addicts of all rams. It can run 2-2-2 timings as long as you keep feeding it with more voltage. It just will keep goin for more :p

And the other POS will give you a 3-4-4 timings which is descent if you are trying to just mingle with it's likelyhood :)

^ hmmm this is all news to me..

Sorry if it seems like I'm giving mixed info guys.. just a little confused, because one thing I don't know much about is ram timings and how they affect performance.

I've never gone out of my way to get a better than average set.

Here is what I intend to do, to clear anything up.

I plan on:
1) Recieving my 2.8ghz Intel Processor, 800fsb, in a couple days and install.
2) Sell my current 2.4ghz processor.

3) Buy a set of new ram (this is where I need help lol)
4) Sell off my current 3 sticks of ram..2 kingston value ram chips @ 3200 ddr 400, and one extra Ultra DIMM at 3200 DDR 400

5) Start to oc , even a little.. so long as it stays stable. I have more than adequate cooling (4 fans, 3 intake and one exhaust) and a fan controller.
As well as a zalman HSF.

So, that said, I'd wanna grab a dual pair for in and around 200 bucks.. NOT exceeding 230.

Reason I want to get the geil, is here.. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6761377364&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
