i posted in gen hardware but i would like to know where i would post this, where would i mount the wires to take temps of my cpu? on the heatsink , on the actual cpu between it and the hs or where?

You'd want it touching the core if possible. There's an article on the front page detailing how to go about it. Not exactly sure where it is though.
This would belong in cooling, which is where this is heading. Don't post in multiple places, either...it'll just get moved to the proper place or deleted. Thanks. :)
Depends on what you want to accomplish and what tools you have.
If you have a probe that is thin enough to touch the edge of the CPU and not interfere with the heatsink's contact to the CPU, do that. It is an acceptable comromise to drilling into the heatsink and mounting a probe on the CPU case.
DO NOT place the probe between the heatsink and CPU - all you will do is raise the heatsink off the CPU and maybe fry it in the process.
If the probe it too thick, then I would try to mount it on the heatsink as close to the CPU core as possible.
All of this assumes you want to keep tabs on cooling and not absolutely measure CPU temp at the case top. These approaches may give you a better reading than an in-socket thermistor.
