View Full Version : BIOS upgrade made the Diffrence!
I was having problems with my 1.4 AYHJA 'y' overclocking past 1540. So this weekend I finally upgraded to 3R from Zt, a move that finally allowed me to oc to 1600.
At 1600 with a 1.80vcore, idle was 36C and full load was 46C. The system temp was around 26C. Max temp at 1400 (1.75vcore) is only 38C. This was all done via MBM. I love my MC462!
I also reversed cooling by feeding my 80mm delta with two 36cfm Sunon's coming from the back of my SX1030. I then tried 1680, and 1733 with full vcore but It won't get into windows. With such a low temp I think I'll just slap a lower cfm fan on my MC462 and keep it at 1600. Anyways I'm impressed with the new bios infact... every bios upgrade(yh-zt-3r) has netted me a bigger OC.
Has it passed the prime95 torture test yet though?
I think so..I'm running a program that uses prime 95 as one of it's testing components, I think it's called something like CPU Burntester lite. I'm not on my computer now, so I'm not positive of it's name. I'll run prime 95 alone though, just to be sure.
nice job I am suprised the 300watt ps can handle your machine but Antec is the best so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I will wait on the prime95 results but if you can run 3dmark and your tester than I guess it is very stable.

How important is the Torture Test? My system can't even run that at its default clockspeed:o but the normal test always runs with no hitch
Can someone post a link to prime 95.
thanks.

Here (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm) you go. I noticed that we got similar MoBos & clockspeed. What are your voltages at? I'm maxed out already but I have the feeling that my chip will go faster if I had a better PSU. Also what are your temps?

HUH????
I was under the impression that they were "Middle Of the road" at best in the way of quality.
I thought that EnerMax made the best power supply.
Please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this point.
I was ready to plunk down $150.00 for the EnerMax 530 Watt PS.
Thanks
Larry
the torture test in prime95 is considered to be about the most stressfull test you can do. It's is rare for the cpu to be put under that amount of stress and some people don't think it's important. In my opinion these people are kidding themselfs. If the cpu can't manage the torture test then there are likely occasions when it won't handle other calculations, likely in things that aren't as picky as prime95 and probabally won't pickup on the error, and if this is happening during disk writes then you could end up with a corrupted file system.
If a system can't pass the torture test at stock speed them something is up with either the cpu, the cooling, the psu, the motherboard or the memory.
crash893 - The work unit. Torture & Self Tests won't run even at default clockspeed.
Phil - "If a system can't pass the torture test at stock speed them something is up with either the cpu, the cooling, the psu, the motherboard or the memory" Sounds like I got a crappy system.

There is a new BIOS Flash out 4A and 4T. It is availible at Paul' s KT7 FAQ site.
http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm
4A is for ver 1.1 MoBo's and 4T is for ver 1.3 MoBo's. I have seen in other forums it is a better overclocker than 3R. I plan on flashing it as soon as I get home in Mid Oct.
