I am a newbie to overclocking, but I have a fair amount of knowledge about computers in general. Having said that, here is my question: I have a 900 MHz AMD Tbird (200 MHz FSB). I am currently running PC133 memory. I do not want to overclock my processor or my PCI bus, but I would like to take full advantage of my memory. Can I increase the system bus from 100 Mhz to 133 MHz if I set the CPU multiplier to 7? This results in 910 MHz CPU with a 33 MHz PCI bus and a 133 MHz system bus (or should anyways). I have already tried this, and it didnt work, no video signal or anything. Is there anything else I can do to make it work?
Thanks in advance,
Casey

P.S.- 900 MHz AMD Tbird, Corsair PC133, FIC AZ11E, KT133 chipset, anything else u need to know just ask.

First Welcome to the forums

It could work, but the az11e is not designed for a 133mhz fsb.

Hold on, If you're just trying to get 133mhz out of your memory, your in luck, leave your fsb at 100 or slightly over, and just set the memory to +33hclk(something like that) in the bios. This makes the memory run 33mhz more than the fsb, also theres a good chance it's already set like that.

However if you're trying to get more like 166mhz with +33 to a 133fsb, you'd have a very hard time.

Is there any chance that bird needs to be unlocked?

Yes, I think all tbs under 1.2ghz are locked, just look for an article about connecting the L1 bridges, theres a few here at overclockers. This is only if you're going to change the multiplyer, otherwise don't bother. So did the +33hclk fix your problem?

I couldnt find anything in my bios that lets me set the mem at 133 with the bus at 100. Also, since i installed Windows XP a few weeks ago i cant get into the voltage/frequency controls in my bios. I have the original bios that came with my board, it hasnt been updated. Any suggestions? Also, can you explain unlocking? Are all tbirds under 1.2 gig locked into a certain clock multiplier?
Thanks again
Casey

In your bios go to Advance Chipset features then DRAM Clock, and change it to +33Hclk(it could be on auto or Hclk or maybe already at +33Hclk). This will make your memory run 33mhz over the fsb(in your case 133). I just checked this on my az11, and the "e" is almost exactly the same except for a few ports and jumpers. As for changing the fsb you should be able to change it under Frequency/Voltage controls, but if you say XP blocks, hm don't know how to get around that. I'm using the oldest bios, and I'm 99% sure that it's the same as yours. When your chip is locked, you can't change the multiplyer, as it is locked at whatever you bought it as(like 9 for you). I could try to explain how to unlock here, but it's easiest to read an article like this:
