I was wondering if anyone can tell me if magnets have any affect on cds like it does with discs? I thought that it wouldn't but a friend says yes it does! ANSWER ANYONE? Thanks

No they don't, because a CD doesn't use magnetism to store data. It uses pits (or certain chemicals for CDRs).

I did not think it would but thought i would ask the pros...... thanks again.
unlike tapes/discs/hdrv/...which are all magnetically manipulated...the cd is burned with a laser and the info is the cause of the chemical impurities much like a diode/ic...etc...the only way i can see a magnet hurting a cd if it is scratching it :)
oh and by the way...a normal fridge magnet wont cause any problems with tapes compared to induced electromagnetism...
