Whether you have a Pentium4 or an Athlon XP/64/FX a Radeon X800XL is going to perform very well as most games are GPU-limited. You've got 16-pipes and can be overclocked to X800XT speeds. You'll be set for another 2 years or so.

Well, I just bought the ATI X800XL AGP (built by ATI), for my brothers Pentium 2.8Ghz. setup. It is way much better than his 9800np. Graphic looks excellent. You are moving from the 9800pro, and you will definitely notice the difference.

i was going to buy the agp X800XL since is cheaper then the 6800GT and out preforms it!, but then i noticed it has a bridge chip if that overheats will that make the card crappy for overclocking the gpu vs the pci-e non bridge chip one?

As far as I know, the RIALTO chip is a passive bridge, and as such, should not create much, if any, extra heat that would limit overclockability. Hence why the RIALTO bridge doesn't come with a heatsink like the bridge on most Nvidia cards I've seen. It just doesn't need it. My card gets a lowly 435/550 overclock with the stock cooler, but I've seen some AGP XL's hitting 460+/570+. Luck of the draw as far as that goes I guess.
As far as performance goes, at stock I get 90+ fps in HL2 at 1280x1024 4xAA/8xAF. Doom 3 is about 60 fps at the same settings. 3dmark03 is just under 11k, and 05 is just under 5k.
This isn't with a P4, but a 2.4 ghz A64 w/ the ram at 200 2-2-2-6. Having problems with my board lately, otherwise it would still be up around 2.6-2.7 ghz. But that's another issue entirely.
