Noticed an interesting thing today. My DSL bandwidth as measured by Cnet is ~150 kbps lower using SuSE 7.0 and Nescape 4.07(?) than it is while using Win98SE and IE 5.01 SP2(?)
Anyone know why? It's passing strange, to say the least.

You say you're using netscape 4.zero7 ?? or should that zero be a 6? I dunno why you'd see that kind of diff, other than CNet tends to be biased toward MS in the first place (kidding, down folks!) ... You check the MTU settings in Linux? Compared to 98?? Could it just be that Netscape is bloated annoyware and inherently slower in the first place? Got me big guy. You have Opera for Linux? Try that and see how it compares, at least that should help tell you whether you're looking at a browser issue versus OS, (no?)... Can't really offer a lot myself as I tend to try and stay with lighter apps, and as you know, Netscape is anything but light.

It could just be the time that you did it...different traffic and the like.
I don't know if maybe it something to do with the kernel? SuSE 7 uses kernel 2.2.16 and the newest is 2.4.9
Try recompiling your kernal and benchmarking.
Are you using the same PC ie dual booting? or are you using two PCs?
Upgrade to netscape 6.1, its way better IMHO. Also it may be faster. In Linux, Galeon is a small and fast browser, try that.
bandwidth tests are crappy benchmarks. I don't know why people even use them. you would better luck benchmarking in your own private lan than one of those websites.
Actually, bandwidth tests do take too much into account. And you should play arouynd thiw the settings anyway.

With any benchmark, you should do the test multiple times, I say at least 10 in this matter, and take the average of windows and ie, compared to netscape and linux. This should even out the odds that it was just a fluke.
