Hello, i just bought a new pioneer dvr-109 from newegg and it came in the mail today, but when i tried installing it i ran into some problems.

The first thing i did was take out my old cdrw drive and put in the new dvr-109, i plugged in all the cables then booted up the comp, i also put it under slave mode ( by taking out the connector thing in the back and putting it on the certain pins on the back of the drive) cuz thats what my old cdrw drive was under, but when i booted up the dvd burner would keep opening its tray, i would press the close button but it would just open again after a sec.

ALSO in my bios it wouldnt recognize either drives, or in windows.

I then put the dvd drive as master and my dvd drive as slave (both with the pin cap stuff on the back of the drives)

this stopped the opening and closing, but in my bios it would only recognize the Pioneer as slave, and it wouldnt recognize anything as a secondary ide master.

Also in windows it woudlnt recognzie either drives.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it but my computer has been really laggy and slow ever since a bad attempt at to much overclocking , even tho i put everything in bios back to normal (even cleared CMOS) it has still been really laggy and stuff, defragged it and all, will i haft to reformat?

Hmm will the machine see just the pioneer drive as master if you leave the other dvd drive out of the mix?

What about the CS option on the back of the drive? That's cable select... is anything set like that? I've had problems before by jumping one drive to cs and the other to master.

even tho i take out the other drive it still recognizes the pioneer as secondary IDE slave, and theres nothing where mastaer should be. No none of them were on cable select

sounds like the drive has a problem with it.

Have you tried it on another ide cable just in case the cable is at fault?

nope havnt tried, well i tried switching the order of the drives so they get a differnt part of the cable ( the first plug or the second) but that didnt seem to make a difference,

is there a way to switch a drive from slave to master? if i cant get the regular dvd cd-rom drive to work i guess i could just run off of my dvd burner

have a second look at the back of the drive where the jumpers are. that's where you change it from master to slave or cable select. If that's not working for you, the drive is most likely defective.

maybe try in each of the 3 jumper positions to see if anything changes.

ya i kno about that :(, when i put the dvd drive in slave, thats when it starts to keep opening on its own, right from when i turn the computer off, it opens and if i close it it opens again and when i close it it opens again :P and i keeps doing it.
And when i put it under Master it works alright, but it still shows up as slave in bios
