View Full Version : 300a celleron chip question
Is 60 c too hot for this chip? It's currently overclocked to 450 at 100fsb. 2.2 volts. It seems hot...
any sugestions?
retail hs/fan.
Please recomend a cooler for this unit as well.
Thanks.

That's pretty hot for an AMD....so I'm sure it's too hot for an Intel. What kind of ambient temps do you have?
*Moved post to "Cooling"*
this is a friend of mines computer.
i'd say the room temp is about 25c.
60 is hot for sure.
What should the temp be??

wow that is toasty, hmm should be topping out in the 30's C at the most i would think, you getting enough ariflow in the case? try taking the panel off and see if the temps drop.
he's tried with the pannel off and it still rolls at 60c.
It's an asus p3bf. Does this board suffer from the famous 10c plus problem when displaying heat from the probe?
Even if it's 50c it's still too hot.

what are you using to take temps with?
just the regular asus on board probe.
nothing fancy.
it's a slot 1 celly 300a chip.

make sure the prog you are using is set up right otherwise you will get some wierd temp readings.
motherboard monitor is reporting the temp as 60c.
It'll be alrite @ 60c... if it's stable dont worry too much... it'd be better if it was @ 50c tops under load tho... u got any case cooling? simple cooling setup which will work well for a system based around such a CPU:
80mm intake (35ish CFM)
80mm exhaust (same CFM, not too noisy really)
super slot fan exhaust card under ur video card
that should help a fair bit

Intel's spec for max temp on that CPU is 85C. Consensus seems to be that 50C should be the upper end for stability, but if it's stable at 60C your friend should be okay. He's probably reducing the lifetime of the CPU, but I doubt that's going to be a big concern. It probably means it'll last 15 years instead of 80 years.
If he can lower the voltage and keep things stable that would help with the temperature.
okay thanks for the tips. i'll let him know.
Personally i think he need more active cooling. Atleast that's a place to start.
voltage is certainly where the heat it coming from.

it's just like my old p3 800eb slot 1
i did everything to cool it down but it just stays at 60C no matter what i do...
