View Full Version : Is there something wrong?
Hi,
I have just recently upgraded and bought new mobo, cpu. I chose to get the MSI K7T Turbo and a Athlon T-bird 1GHz. I was happy with it at first, but then I installed 3DMark2001 and got 2624 points and compared it with other peoples computers and found out that they were getting 1000 more points then me, and they had the same CPU, memory etc.... Why is this? Is it my 3D card (ATI Radeon 32 SDR) ?
Thanks for listening;)

I would say that it is, in fact, your 3D card, as that is primarily what is tested by 3DMark 2001.

Yeah, its your videocard all right. Its because its using SDRAM, not DDR, like most GeForce and others of the Radeon line from ATI
Thanks for the info,
Since it is my 3D card that is the problem, is there anything I can do from stopping it slowing my computer down, without buying a new one?

ahem...cough....cough overclock it!
I got about 500 extra point in 3d mark on mx gf2MX that way.
Thanks fox,
I will try that, let’s just hope there’s no smoke:)
buying another one?! there r actually a lot of things u could try out before that!
id firstly compare the results with systems like mine and talk to people who own them too - at least the same vid card. try out other drivers, AGP settings, overclocking it etc. i wish had already used that board so i could be a bit more objective explaining all you can do before deciding to get another one. what you shouldnt expect from it is performance as good as cards much more fast than yours.

3DMark 20001 is just for the hype, and it is geared towards Geforce chipset. I really would not worry too much about your score.
Overclock the card and you will gain some more points, make sure you have the newest driver and bios. I have a Radeon 64 DDR vivo w an MSI K7T266 Pro Raid ddr board, 1.2 T Bird pc266 w 2 x256 crucial pc2100 ddr ram and I scored 3429. Yet my card is equal to or produces slightly better framerate than a Geforce 2 GTS pro card at 1024 x 768 32 bit colour.
You figure that one out. If you are getting 50fps + you are gonna be able to run most games well.
Thats my 2 cents, but yes your card is the limiting factor in your system.
