I have a linksys befcmu10 version 2 cable modem and befw1154 version 3 wireless 4 port router. Since I started using shareazza I keep losing my internet connection on all 3 of my systems....After I unplug the cable modem it is fine. I get speeds up to 500-900 kb/s on my downloads. Any suggestions to help stop the modem from crashing? I have had to use a wireless b usb card when I download but the speed is slooooooooooooooooooow. Linksys has no firmware out there to help either. Anyone have a suggestion? :bang head

are you 100% sure it is the modem that is dying and not the router that needs to be rebooted?

try this. next time this happens, try going into the linksys router interface and rebooting the router. if it connects, it's the router and not the modem

this is a problem with tcp, not really your cable modem.

see, when ever you download, you have to send out an ack packet for every data packet you get from the server.

now if you are running a program that forcefully take all your upstream bandwidth, bad things happen to your downloads. you wont be able to send out those valuable ack packets. when the packet window time out on the server side, server tries to send you the same packet over and over again until connection time out. this is why your download will slow down to a craw.

a simple way to fix this is to limit your upload bandwidth in your p2p program's settings, and everything should be fine.
