Well, is it safe to have your comp connected 24/7 w/ out a firewall?
thanks

it's not harmful in itself, but there's no real reason to be without a firewall. zonealarm is a good, free software solution and imo it's worth it just for the piece of mind

it's safe to drive around without a seatbelt on as long as noone crashes into you.(i love analogies!)

Been behind my NetGear router for 2 years and haven't used a firewall at all in that time.

No unwanted pests either.

my router is a cheap DI-804 that I got from amazon for <$100....lots of nice features for the $$...it has an integrated 4 port switch, NAT, DHCP, firewall, etc...check it out if you're looking for something inexpensive

One word: No. I have BlackIce Defender and I've gotten 210 attacks in the last 2 months, most of which were HTTP or TCP port probes, but many were Sub7's and NetBus attempts. If you download S7 or NetBus or BO by mistake, you're likely to be hacked rather quickly

Get your firewall ASAP

IF you hang your computer out somebody will stick something in it.

Get the firewall - can't hurt to have it but going without is risky
