Should I make 2 partitions, 50 and 150 and just install winXP on the first and games and programs on the second partition?
Would that make anything faster or more stable?
Thanks.
I always prefer having windows on its own partition, separate from your programs, games etc.
It's easier when troubleshooting or reinstalling windows, if the OS screws up you won't lose everything.
ALWAYS put your swap file on a different partition, or on a different disk if you can. I always make a 2gb partition at the end of a drive (assuming you have at least a gig of RAM) so the swap file can have it's own partition. If you leave it in a separate partition it gets much less fragmented.

Its easier to keep data on a separate partition - that way you can just reinstall the os without having to worry about backing up the data.
Definatly make a data partition -- it's great to have :) I'm not so sure about a "programs" partition though, since wouldn't most programs stop working when the registry disappears with a reinstall?

True, but you won't have to redo all your setting next time you reinstall into that same directory. Also, backing up your registry settings (right click -> export) at times can be helpful in the future :)

Putting a swap drive on a sperate "partition" does nothing - it is still on the same physical drive using the same heads to access it - putting it on a seperate physical drive does improve performance.
i partition my drives ad my the My Doc folder to the other drive - as said if windows messes up when u format u dont lose everything.

will put my salary on the fact that it DOES keep it from becoming as fragmented. You missed my whole point.....does well to read the whole post.
