OK at first I thought I could get through this but sometimes I spent 15min just trying to connect to the internet. The ISP that I'm in contract with for another 10 months only offers a internet connection cdrom for 95/98 but they say it should work with 2kpro , its either not true or my modem is faulty.

I was wondering if I could use another connection while still dialing my current access number and using my current homepage? I guess since I have to put in an user I.D. and access number I may not be able to do this without subscribing to another ISP.

update- Oh ya one of the problems the error suggests is not haveing the networking stuff installed properly , I remmember when I first installed 2kpro I just skipped tha networking wizard I wonder if this could be part of the problem.

Should be able to go to the Internet Connection Wizard in Accessories menu and use that to setup your connection.

It should reinstall/install anything you may have skipped out on when installing the OS.

As far as them being only 95/98 compatible, it shouldn't really matter. What matters is that they all use the same DUN version even though Win2K has a little different interface for it.

If worse comes to worse I would just blow out all of the networking stuff and start over with it. That's what I would do from the get-go but I've done it so many times it's almost second nature. Try getting rid of your current connection account and just create another with the Internet Connection Wizard using the same credentials. Should be fine the next time around.

Keep us filled in!

youre on dial up? well you do not need the IPS CD it full or crap anyhow LOL all you need to do is go on IE then Tools--->Internet options----->connections and then click on setup or add :) and just put in the info that youre ISP gave you and youre set and remember to install the drivers for youre 56k sometimes win2k will not set it up for you becoes it could be old just right click on My Computer and proprites go in Hardware then click on Devise manager and see were there are littel ! or ? right click and istall the drivers just stick in the CD form the ISP and tell win to look for the drivers on it and thats all if you need to have the ISP CD or you cant run the 56k then get a emulator at www.megagames.com i think motsly for games but i saw one for win98 neverkno ;) have fun

Ummm this has nothing to do with drivers. Call your ISP and tell them that they need to walk you through a manual install of their IP addresses so your computer can talk to them.

This has nothing to do with modem drivers. You need thier primary and secondary DNS IP's so you can manually enter them into your system. That is what their CD does for you, and seeing the 2K networking is different than 98, that cd actually working for you will go over like a fart in church.

If they dont want to do this for you tell them that they either need to make a CD for you that will work on 2k and upgrade their installation process or hire someone with the knowledge to walk people through it. If they don't want to do this for you, tell them that you want out of the contract because they can't hold their part of it.

Can you tell I hate ISP's that are to cheap and lazy to stay up to date?

Yeah, but if he needs a disk to setup his internet, chances are he isn't going to know how to put in the IP's either.

Looks like we're gonna walk him through it.

Alright I setup the dial up connection and setup the internet explorer so it will access my home page , it seems to work better the only problem I've seen is my ISP doesn't answer me sometimes. Also I have 3 email accounts with my ISP for three different users which was very easy to setup using the ISP's start up cd but using the Outlook Express seems to only provide different hotmail accounts , anyone know how I can setup each users email so it can be accessed by simply pressing the email icon in the task bar?

hmm...you need the Pop3 and....i forgot...i think you have to use the internet connection wizard....just go on a page were its a direct link to a email like mailto:blah@blah.com and it should open it auto and then just set it up there ;)

Open OE and go to tools and then accounts. Then go to add. You will need to know the actual email addresses, the passwords, and the servers, i.e., mail.yourdomain.net or whatever their mail server is. If you cant find it on the disk a quick call to them will net you the proper name of their server.

Thanks I think the way I was about to do it would work aswell (still running the cd version) , open OE - tools - account - mail - properties - General then I could just add in the email address - Servers then I add the email/pop..... then add in the email password.

Ok I got another question , I am running the cd version because the way I setup the internet access seems to have an extra unneeded step.

First I went into Network and Dial up conn. - created a new connection then created a shortcut which I added to the taskbar (a little yellow phone icon) - then opened IE and made it access the current homepage. So if that makes sense you would get that I have to click on the connection icon and connect then after connecting I have to go press the IE icon to open up the homepage the way I see it that is one steps to many. How can I set this up so when I double click the IE icon the dial up opens then when I access the internet the hompage opens by its self , 1 step (much easier for the others users in the house).

Right click on the Internet Explorer Icon and select properties and then connections, Look for dial automatically or dial when IE opens. I can't remember which it is, I don't have dial-up...

God I love DSL behind a router. Set everything to DHCP and go!

Thank you , DSL isn't in the equation until I finish paying for my system , its only 20 bucks more a month minus the activation fee (256/256regular account) 21.99 more for a better account (256/640). Anyway I'll be using DSL soon enough , probably.
