I need a good ups

A person for whom I built a computer wants a ups, and since I don't know anything about them I wanted to know what is a good brand and how much should will it cost?

APC makes good battery backups........ SurgeMaster makes good surge protectors.

Well I found cyberpower to be cheap and effective... APC's last longer, but are of course more expensive.

I get the cyberpower AVR series.. It's voltage regulation keeps the line "clean". I saw a good deal from circuitcity.com the other day. I bought a pair of CPS625AVR 's the other day from there for $50 a piece. Mighty good deal...

It won't get you nearly as long of a battery life as the product states.. but it will still give you enough time to actually shut down the computer in case of a power outage. Also, I wouldn't bother to install the UPS software..

Expect 5-10 minutes on a high end computer with a 17-19" CRT tube monitor. Not much... but enough..

Well the ups will be for a A64 system with a 17" LCD monitor, I would want the person to have enough time to save whatever she is doing and shutdown, this is a business pc and keeping the data safe is crucial.

Well for my computer I'm on right now has a 17" LCD and a P4 @ 2.0 Ghz. I get 38 minutes (when idle) out of the 1000 AVR from cyberpower, but thats about twice as expensive. You'd get about 25 minutes I guess out of an A64.

Probably 10-15 minutes on a 625 AVR. That's enough time to shut down... A bit less if it's under full load.

The LCD monitors help a lot, since tubes are a considerable power draw.
