hi all,

I have a ney comp 2 months now but it runs at 1Ghz instead of 1333Mhz .. The reason is that the CPU temp get sooo high and I really don't know why. So I decided to write anything gown here in the forum because it looks like there are a lot of guys in here with great comp knownledges. My config:

-Tb 1333c + Alpha PAL6035 cooler
-MB Elitegroup K7VTA3-266
-2x256Mb PC266 Apacer
-WD 45Gb HD + Maxtor 20Gb + Fujitsu 3 Gb
-Gforce2MX
-350W Enermax Power pack
-Win2k

My problem is the CPU Temp, it shows me in the Bios a temp of 54°C idle and 61°C after a few hours 3D gaming (MB Temp is about 34°C). And it's too high because the stability of my PC is not garanteed at such a high temp, it hangs up sometimes. The PAL cooler is a good one so the hig temps should not be .. :o(((
My thermal paste is a good one, I am sure I put the Cooler at a right way on the CPU ......... **** what should I do ??... I feel so disapointed .. :o//
And I dont want to put any fans more in my case because I know that there's some guys with about the same config who has idle temp of under 40°C with a PAL6035.

Thx in advance
HPman

Granted, those temps are quite high. But then again, every single system is different from the other. Are you sure the lock-ups are due to these high temperatures?
Which detonator drivers are you using?
I remember the time when my computer hung up on me every now and then while playing Age of kings (not even 3D, can you imagine!). Temps were 54°C (ambient was over 30°c in my room). But the reason for these lock-ups turned out to be the AGP-fast writes being enabled.

Anyway, if you can't live with the high temperatures try to re-seat your heatsink a few times. But I think you have to increase airflow through your case, I guess.

Right, I forgot: try running it with the cover off and take a look at the temps. If this works you should definitively increase your case's airflow (add a few case fans, a blowhole maybe...).

GOOD LUCK!!

thx for your reply ... I have the latest official detonator drivers (from 10.09.2001). The AGP-fast write didn't change anything.
I don't want to put anymore fans in my case ... :o/
I think there should be a remedy for my problem without adding some more fans, my comp is loud enough ! :o
I think I'll try to replace the cooler one more time (I did it 3 times already).

if you are going to replace the heatsink then i suggest you getting a sk6(i cant remember what company made it) or a cak38 from globalwin

they are great heatsinks

No, don´t replace the Heatsink, it´s good enough, think about some more Airflow in your Case, your Mobo temp is also on the high side..If noise is a concern you could use a 120mm Fan and run it at 7V, this should move some Air without beeing too loud..
hope that helps..

Do u have any fas in your case right now and how are they set up?

I don't have any fans in my case, only the cooler and the enermax fan that sucks the air quite good out of the case.
When my case is open, the CPU Temp is only 3-4°C lower.

thats your main temp problem then :{ u should get at least one fan blowing air into your case that will drop your temps alot. but make sure u put it in a position where there is little restricting the ari flow for it

TOMATOMAN, don't you think a blowhole would be better in this *case*? Take a look at his temps when the case is open. Only a 3°-4°C decrease.

HPman, Where is your CPU located compared to the powersuply unit? Is your heatsink/CPU seated directly beside your psu? Or below it? If the heatsink/cpu is seated beside your psu so there's only a very limited space between the heatsink fan and the psu, that could be the problem. The psu could be obstructing the airflow of your heatsink fan. This is likely the case when you have one of the smaller ATX cases. In larger (medium and maxi towers) the entire mobo lies well beneath the psu, so no probs there.

what motherboard is it? asus boards can read high.... more airflow into case is a must..... also as you have tried running with case off, try pointing a big fan at the case, that should drop temps even better. how thick a layer of thermal compound do you have? as it may be too thick. my bro's duron 850 is at 35 celsius full load and 36 when it was at 1ghz..... that was with a vantec CCK-6035D and AS2.... i know tbirds run hotter, but that temp is just silly! what fan is on the HS?

I think your best bet would be a 120MM side fan that hits your video card and your CPU. Cause this will supply fresh air and since u have positive presure in the case it will push ari out of the holes or any thing else it cam. But the best would be a side and a blow hole does wotk good togerther :}

Yeah a 120 mm fan in a blowhole located next to cpu and gfx card would do the job..You could get a Rheostat to hold down the noise
