I've just received my order of 2 Sunons 80mm 50cfm, a Delta 60x60x38mm 50cfm, and a Delta 80x80x38mm 68cfm from Sidewinder Computers.
I tested each of the above fans on the SK6 against my existing Delta 38cfm fan and here are the results:
CPU: TBird 850@945 (105x9) on an Abit KT7
Room temp: 24 C (stays the same throughout each test)
Case temp: 26 C
Heatsink: Thermalright SK6 /w AS2
Full load using CPUBurn (BurnK6.exe) and Folding@Home.
F@H was ran using the same workunit for each of the fans to ensure consistency. The SK6 was also left alone on the socket and only the fans were changed.
Both the Sunon and Delta 68cfm fans were mounted on the SK6 without any kind of adaptor. You can do this by turning the fan 45 degrees then hook the clips on the 2 opposite corners of the fans. Use the short pair of clips for the Sunon and long pair for the Delta 68.
------------------------- CPUBurn -------- F@H -------- Noise
Sunon 50cfm ------------ 41 -------------- 39 -------- Medium(quietest)
Delta 38cfm ------------- 39 -------------- 38 ------- Hairdryer on low
Delta 50cfm ------------- 36 -------------- 35 ------- Vacuum cleaner
Delta 68cfm ------------- 36 -------------- 35 ------- Loud but bearable
(sorry for the lines. I had to put those in because the forum ignores spaces)
Wow! Really nice improvement going from my Delta 38cfm to either the Delta 50 or Delta 68.
The Sunon is relatively quiet compared to the rest and performs OK but not great. It is best for people who overclock slightly and want low noise level.
On the other hand, the Delta 50cfm is EXTREMELY LOUD!!! If the Delta 38 is comparable to a hairdryer on low then the Delta 50 is a vacuum cleaner. And you guys thought the Delta 38 was loud, hah! The Delta 50's specs says it's 8K rpm but it ran at around 9K +/- 100 rpm in my computer.
Finally, the Delta 68cfm is my recommendation. It performs just as well as the 50cfm but with much less noise. Actually, the noise it makes is even less annoying than the Delta 38 (like many people have noticed before).
I hope somebody will do a test that compares the Swiftech 462 vs. Alpha 8045 vs SK6 (each using the Delta 68cfm). I have no doubt that the SK6 + Delta 68 will beat the crap out of the other 2 heatsinks + Delta 68.
