I have just set the jumpers on my gigabyte GA-7IXE4 motherboard to run at 115mhz it has boosted my cpu to 863mhz from 750mhz i am worried about cooling my health utility says the temp is 46c is this to high or is it ok i am a newbee to this any help would be nice and can i boost it more.

AMD 'claim' that the CPU is ok up to tempratures of 90c however I strongly disagree with this as from my experiences the Duron becomes unstable at much lower tempratures.. I would always aim to get the Duron to run at a temprature of 50c or lower when on load. While your temprature is not something I would worry about just yet, you do fail to state if this was taken under load or if the system was idle, however I would not want to personally see tempratures much higher.

To offer more advice we would need to know more bout your system such as what hsf you are using and if the case has any additional cooling.. etc

Heh at90 C I thin your chip would melt. Anyways, under 45 I think is good. 45-50 is pushing it, and just to be safe I'd be lower. What kind of h/f are you ising?

In my experience temps up too 55 degrees are fine if you donīt wanīt to overclock too far...But Temps that high might prevent you from a high oc..

At what temp does it start to be unstable? I noticed that at 1077 Mhz my Duron 950 would sometimes crash. Is this a temp problem (mid 40s) or is it my weak mem? (128 Mb)

What mem is it? PC-133, PC-100, DDR?

the heat fan i am using is just the basic one bought with the cpu
i am not sure what it is and the temp reading i gave was idle do i need to benchmark or something and what fan should i get.I was also told that if i use my pc like this it will cook my ram is that true or am i safe.do i have to change my voltage and how.

STOP First of all STOP overclocking. STOP If your running STOP at 46 degrees STOP idle, then it STOP might go past 50 degrees on load. STOP Go out and buy yourself a STOP better heatsink fan STOP. Then start oc and moniter your temps so they stay at max mid 40s on high load.

STOP

STOP

To put on high load, STOP run SETI or a STOP benchmark prog and loop for STOP about 30 minutes STOP

To increase the voltage, (not sure what mobo you have), but see if you can change the VCore on the mobo. If not you can change the Vocore STOP by filling in the L7 bridges with a pencil (on the chip)

For info on the L7 bridges try to ask someone here for a link

heh, good luck
