Hello OC's,
I am the mindbender that would71 speaks of, he just ICQ'ed me asking me to quit the team, I read through some of the posts, and I think I have most of the story. But there are always 2 sides to every coin. I'll get his side from him later when he is on. Can someone fill me in on the complete 'what the hell happened'. I would just like to know the story. Um- no pun intended.
I hardly ever come here to the forum, I dont pay attention to the politics of any of it, nor do I care. My g/f, my dog, and my 4 wheeler (not nocessairly in that order) is what I choose to really care about. I fold because I was asked to by would and I hate waste. Dormant CPU time is a waste. So I installed it on like 10 out of my 40 here, to help contribute, I plan on having all 40 a go here when I schedule an update this week. I have no idea what my stats are, I don't care. I just wanted to help out where I was asked and I have always thought that chat, email and newsgroup arguements were the funniest thing ever. It's like arguing with a book..........
I am not on his side, I am not joined with those that banned him, Hell I have no idea who banned him and why. I just wanted to see what was going on, because noone can help looking at the screen when Jerry Springer is on.

While I have absolutely no idea what has been going on, I do find it exceptionally refreshing that you are going to decide what is right for yourself, but to be honest I just liked your logical approach not to mention the way you describe newgroups 'like arguing with a book'.. perhaps this is true of forums also..
I hope your g/f, dog, and 4 wheeler appricate you :D
I'll second that.
I haven't a clue what's been going on. Haven't heard a thing about anyone being banned either. I guess I'm not even sure what that would mean in this context.
I fold because I'd like to see some improvements in medical science. I'm not a doctor or a biologist, so this is pretty much what I can do to help out. I fold for this team becase, well, umm, the truth is because this is where I heard about it first.
So, please do put folding on the rest of your machines. If you want to fold with a team, I guess this one's as good as any. By the same token any team is probably as good as this one in your circumstances. Heck with that many machines you could set up your own team. ;)
The important thing is the project. Teams are just someone's idea to get more folding via some kind of team spirit. I never understood the spirit thing in high school. I guess I still don't.

I kind of came in to the 'negative' threads part way through so I will not pretend to know all the forces at work here. I think in some cases, the roots of the conflicts were started long ago, long before I ever got here.
My feelings are the same as those above. I joined this team because:
A) I liked the people here and it seemed like a good bunch of folders
B) I first heard about F@H here and it is surely a worthy cause.
Folding is the important thing and the team concept is to make it a bit more competitive and fun.
I'd love to have your computing power here, but not if that ruins a friendship you have with Would. I know how difficult it can be to stay neutral when a friend is very biased one way. But, as long as you are folding, that's what matters.
And, I'd say I speak for the overwhelming majority when I say that even if you do not fold for OC.com, you are more than welcome here and in any forums to discuss thoughts, ideas, offer advice, or whatever.
Hope you stick with us, but FOLD ON no matter what.

Mindbender,
Rather than try to give you a synopsis of the history of Would71 on this forum, it would probably be more instructive for you to do a search of his posts and the threads he has participated in. Then, decide for yourself what is truth and what is fiction.
Unfortunately, neither the Moderators nor the OC.Com Staff are at liberty to discuss any specific issues with our members in the public forum. So you will have to take some time yourself and research it if you wish to see both sides.
This discussion board, and the AMD CPU and AMD Motherboard discussion boards are good places to start. Hopefully you will find the people here friendly and helpful, and we hope to have you stay on.
Regards,
Anthony

Well, I will *honestly* try to sum up MY view on things. Note that I cannot be completely objective on this matter, but I will do my best. If anyone thinks that I am wrong I what I write, please say so.
Would71 has been folding for this team for a VERY LONG time, and he has turned out some good WU's. At first he said over and over again that he didn't care about stats, it was all about the science of it. Fair enough.
Lately he became a lot more fixated on stats, and his way of approaching the forum changed dramatically. He started saying things that would insult 9 out of 10 people in here, and if anyone tried to tell him this, he accused them for picking a fight.
I was at that point functioning as team leader, and thought it would be best to try to calm him down - or "shut him up", so to speak. Then he threatened me in a PM, telling me how incompetent I was as team leader. The moderators have have spent a lot of time moderating his posts, as they became more and more insulting.
Would71 simply ignored the fact that when he signed up for oc.com, he accepted the rules of this place. He lost respect of the authorities of this place - something you cannot be allowed to do, no matter who you are.
Anyway, Would71 surely cared about the team, but the way I see it, he let his feelings control him way too much in here. I don't know what happened to change him so much, I don't remember him being like that in the beginning.
Mind you this is my personal beliefs, but I think more people more or less share them.
Thank you.
Personally I don't think who said what to who is of any imporance.
A couple people got their egos slightly dented and are upset about it. Pretty childish really.
You want to contribute to the team? Excellent. Come on board.
You don't want to fold anymore? Good stuff. Thanks for folding while you did. Good day to you.
Stop the complaining and grow up for heavensake.
Hi Mindbender,
I've been trying to keep quiet on this and I'm not going to say anything bad about your friend. Anyway. A while back one of the people here who was a part of this site left the staff and has since created a new forum whose focus is to provide a central location of dicsussion for several overclocking sites in an alliance which allows all of the sites increased exposure and it forum will be better populated to help the flow of knowledge.(I think I got that one pretty close.) This person and the people who are working with him are very well respected by many of the members and staff here. A folding team was created there and many of the members here, myself included, wanted to provide at least temporary assistance in launching this new team while continuing to support this team. There was nothing political about any of it really. I personally thought that this was a good thing for folding@home in general because it increases the exposure of the project as more strong teams emerge and I had planned to return to 100% here after a short duration there. I believe that several others of us did as well.
That's when things got kind of hot. Some members here viewed this as a betrayal of this team, Would included and were bothered by the fact that several people could switch teams so easily. This was to be expected, but things quickly turned sour to an extreme and the flaming began and Would was right in the middle of it and was, by far, the most vocal about it. You have probably read the rest of what happened in the threads about this fiasco so there is no need to explain the rest of it.
It would be great for this team if you continued to fold here, but I can only assume that Would is a friend of yours. If that is the case there may be less friction between you and your friend if you stuck by him, but that is a decision that only you can make.
I am the person that banned him. I respected his position and have been very tolerant for months.
Things got way out of hand. The public attacks became personal and nastier. He stated flat out he would not follow any rules that we had and had no respect for any of the Management here. That's when I pulled the plug.
He requested that all of his posts be removed from the Forums and I complied.
Hey Mindbender!
I hope you'll do a search of Would71's posts, if any are still here, and you may want to search my posts too; I let myself get sucked in a time or two too many.
Whatever you decide to do regarding folding, to me the most important thing is that everyone who can should fold fold fold.
Here, or there, let's keep working to find the answers.
Competition is useful, but it's a two-edged sword. At one time or another most of us have experienced some degree of having lost sight of what really counts, in the big picture. It's human nature.
Thanks for taking the time to find out what really happened.

The people running this forum are very reasonable people, they wouldn't have banned him if they hadn't had good reason. I have seen quite a few of his posts and must say that this has been a long time coming, it wasn't so much a differance of opinions he just plain wouldn't follow the rules, and it wasn't nit picking little things, he practically broke most of the rules that hold this forum together.
I don't know how many of you saw his post over on the aoa forums regarding the folding team, but lets just say it was incredibally offensive and un called for, especially over something as trivial as a folding team.
I understand he is your friend and that you would probabally want to support him, but he was in the wrong, either that or the entire forum is. I would hate to think that you would want to leave just because your friend aloud himself to be banned by ignoring continual warnings and had a complete disregard for the rules here.
