Air flow is not the most inportan that the shower head :} Shower head is the brains of the thing. But airflow is inportand but if u read the articles every one has reduced air flow one way or another. One more thing is he never mentioned if he had a little filter on the top of thej bong to cath some of the water. Im not saing that his idea s not it is when i make a bong im usuing that idea, im just saing other thing help save water :}
Great idea. I would not want to rely on it if you were using 5 gallons per day with dual pelts though. ;)
TOMATOMAN - Airflow is the most important factor in a bong cooler. Take a look at this. (http://www.hardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=225719) My own experiments have verified this too.

Well i stand corected :} BUt hey how did u get your mesage to be under mine?? :}
I don't want folks to get the idea that the shower head is not important. At the very least, a Chrometta and best would be the 300 hole Dram garden wand heads.
Ant the post jump? :D :D :D

I'm glad you guys like it :-)
Since I wrote the article a few things have changed...
For a while I wasn't using a fan because it didn't make that big of a temp. difference and I was using a filter on the top.
Also, after moving my water block around, my full load temps stay around 40C, and drop to 32 if I speed up the fan, instead of 46, and idle is right over ambient.
Another thing I found is for larger reservoirs, don't use a gallon milk jug, it will collapse on itself. Right now I have a 64oz juice bottle that works great.

I built my tower directly into the top of a five-gallon bucket . . . it makes a great reservoir and gives me room to submerge just about any pump.
Anybody tried making some sort of automatic reservoir using the float valve out of a toilet tank? I'm considering it, I just have to work out some details.
Actually, I was thinking of using a float valve for a horse trough. But now that you mention it, why would I want to run a garden hose into the house, when I can move around the piping??

Anybody try to build their computer INTO a toilet bowl?? Jeez that would look weird.... Just flush and more water!

LMAO!
I suppose it would be possible to rig something like that up. The only thing stopping me is the fact that right now I live in a dorm, and they wouldn't like it if I ran pipes into my room. :-)
I purchased a small float valve from the local Koi shop for an auto fill reservoir. I have not had time to put it together yet. I get by with a six gallon Igloo cooler for a reservoir. Even with dual 120 watt pelts, it allows me to run 24/7.

omg, thats brilliant!
I read that and I agree awesome idea... One thing I was wondering, if it might help cool the water more? maybe? was to place a screen below the shower head above the level of water... something else to make the water get dispersed again... then you could also add ice every so often if the temps start to get high, and the ice would sit on the screen with in turn the showerhead would cause the water to to go directly over the ice lowering the temp faster...
not real sure how much of a difference any more but its possible...

hmm, right now I have a scotch brite pad right above the water level catching water before it hits the bottom to lessen the amount of noise.
I also have a very thin filter right above where the 'Y' part of the tower is catching and slowing down the water. I'm not sure if it helps any (if at all) but it does make it quieter.
I think what I really need to do is take the block off and make sure it is level on the cpu.
well what im thinking would be more to try to cool it better maybe?! but i imagine that it might cut down the noise level as well... not real sure... Im presently building a bong cooler... Ill prolly test it out and give a few of these ideas a run..

cool, let us know the results when you finish :-)
no probs will try to get some pics up along within some actual stats of some ideas that I have going on !!!

How much is it costing u guys to put this lot together??
i'v looked around a couple of local hardware stores, (UK) and all i've found is one section, the one with the joint that the fan connects to, which is £26 or so. I think thats about $35ish, not too sure. Is that expensive? or is it around that price? because i dont particularly want to spend that much money on such a component at the moment.
I'm New here by the way, about to build my first watercooled rig :D which should be - interesting
but like i said i want to build it as cheaply as possible, so ive been considering just using a bin type container, suspending the shower head at the top, if i cant find a cheaper joint.

has anyone thought about shooting the water up from the base up the pipe it would double your waters time in the air ( im not sure if a pump would have the psi to do it but just a thought.)
has anyone thought about an atomizer ( extra fine spray nozile)
does the bong work off of surface area of the water?
if it does i think i have a good idea
Well first off Slaught... welcome to your soon to be 2nd home!!!
And second off, yea that sounds about right... but if your looking to save some money its easy to do with that kind of setup. 1 thing you can do would be to get one of those large paint buckets, the ones that stand about 30 or so CM i think? they are used for alot of different things but they shouldnt be hard to get ahold of. Just look around, odds are you should be able to get one for free!!! The best there is!!! But alot of people starting out will get those due to the large size and ease of use with... You dont have to cut the bucket in the slightest just the lid which you have alot of leway with...

well, after reading this thread for the first time, i'm surprised to see so many people using these things! Hehe, I've just built my second one, my first worked okay, just too small, had to fill all the time. This new one works rather well, it's made from 4" pvc, similar to the guy's picture above, except mine uses a watercooler jug. the noise was a big issue, as my fiance and I sleep close enough to hear any loud noises, she hated the delta, so watercooling was my solution to that. I used some green pads to slow the water and noise as well, works excellently, had to make a screen so that the "loosened" green pads didn't fall apart and into the reservoir, so far so good on that. I used a ground sprinkler hose attachment, cost 96cents at Home Depot, and bought a 1/16th drill bit to cut more holes. I submersed a pump in the reservoir, put an 80mm fan on the front (fits perfect on 4" pvc sanitary tee openings, have to sand the fan a little bit) and my temps are ALWAYS room temp or 2 to 3 degrees lower (water temp that is) I use an inline thermometer to monitor the water temp going into the cpu block and one to monitor the temp of the input line to the bong, and one more on the outlet of the bong. I'd recommend this type of setup to anyone, it's easy to build, and from seeing that "sideline water jug" setup, i think i might like that even more, might have to borrow the idea.
Hmm..I currently have my computer in my laundry room..don't ask!
And I was working out a plan to use a large cooler type setup with a float valve attatched to the cold water pipe for the washing machine. That way endless water supply! Now just to get all the parts! :)
Slaught: "£26 or so. I think thats about $35ish." All I can say is ouch! I went to the local "totem hardware store" two days ago and I can buy that same part in a 4" diameter for $12 CDN that's like well £6 or damn close to that anyways!
I'm hoping to spend around 50-60CDN before pump and Waterblock if I can and I'm almost there. just a few more places to look for parts. I need a good shower head. (sorry garden sprinkler...) or whatever. :)
And after all is said and done no more then 150CDN Max and I'm thinking I'll be closer to the 100-120 mark!
