Is folding on a laptop a good idea if i leave it plugged in to the wall and so on??

I will be getting a Pentium 3 850MHz 128Mb RAm etcetc...

Will this be ok to fold on or will it overheat or something???

I think I read about somebody here on the forum who actually burned his Laptop with Folding!

I have been folding on a P3 700mhz Dell laptop for about 3 months now. I haven't had any problems yet. I usually prop the bottom of the laptop off the table so that air can circulate underneath.

I'm not too worried about overheating since this unit is under warranty for the next 3 years.

I'd say go ahead, if you're worried about it overheating you can always prop it up (as mentioned before) and put a house fan on it or something....

But then again.... we don't make any guarantees. :)

I'd say if it's still under warranty, you're safe.

Missed this one. I have been folding on a PIII 1000 laptop for some time now as well. It does get a little hotter than I like. Someone did burn up a laptop while folding on it. Smarty I think. Not sure if that was the cause of it dying but it's definitely a possibility.

I don't think I'll worry about folding then!!

My 1.2Ghz will get my stats going anyway, I have my p2 running 24/7 too so no worries

Cheers guys,
Lenny

That was me I burned up my Compaq PIII 1.0. Compaq sent me a new one. It was less then two month old. I've been folding on the new one for about two month know. Seem ok. I put a 4" desk fan blowing on it and jack it up off the desk about an inch folds 24/7. I also have the HD shut down after 1min. I think that where the extra heat was coming from.

Hey, I have been folding on my Piii 750 laptop for about a month now and keep it propped up on a milkcrate with one of those 15 inch cylcone fans blowing on it. Keeps it pretty cool

Wouldn't shutting down the HD screw up your times? I know it does on SETI? If it does, this could be fixed with a ramdrive.

for some crazy reason seti accesses the HD alot folding hardly ever does. thats why you can see a substantial increas with seti if you run it on a RAM drive but none with folding.
