View Full Version : Tual Celery vs. Tual PIII...

While the coppermine PIIIs and Celerons have always shared the same stepping codes, anyone notice that the stepping on the upcoming 1.2 Celery is tA0 while all of the current Tualatins have a tA1 stepping? I was excited to hear that they'll have the same amount of cache, but now I wonder what chinks they'll throw in there?

It seems really a Great way to go, especially for the 256K of cache, like you can found at http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/icp.htm

Well, what I'm suggesting is that with the difference in the stepping, would there be changes on the level of the core, unlike with the coppermines (which shared the exact same manufacturing process and simply snipped the cache and associativity in half.)
Maybe I'm getting worked up about nothing and the difference between tA0 and tA1 is FCPGA vs. FCPGA2. Guess I didn't have to get this ST6 after all. It would be nice if the new Celeries did have the heat spreader; Intel doesn't make note of it in the Celery S-Spec sheet...

I've understwood what you sayed,
I know only that the first letter is the Cpu family (C for Coppermine's & T for Tulatin's) and the second is the Chip revision, infact this is the first one, A, but I don't know what's the third numember :)

I mean the heat spreader.

Nouveau Celeron 1.2 GHz 0.13 micron
for those of you who are french impaired (hey i have a b in French :))......what it says is that it has 256k chache, but it has 100mhz fsb...but then again, an overlclocker wont behampered by that....yeah/...

Boosting Performance By Overclocking: Celeron With 1500 MHz
The Celeron 1200 with the Tualatin core proves to lend itself especially well to overclocking: 1500 MHz were no problem in the test.
The 0.13-micron technology is what makes it all possible. The Celeron 1200 was overclocked to 1500 MHz without any problem at all in the test. When this happens, the FSB runs at a speed of 125 MHz, the PCI bus at 41.5 MHz and the AGP bus at 83 MHz. Sensitive components such as the GeForce 3 graphics cards can have problems with the high AGP or PCI speed. An experiment in which the Celeron 1200 was overclocked to 1600 MHz was unsuccessful, although the temperature of the CPU core was not even close to the critical range. It is only at the 1600-MHz speed that the CPU equipped with a fixed multiplier would run at specified speeds (FSB speed at 133 MHz, PCI at 33 MHz and AGP at 66 MHz). Most impressive were the benchmark results of the overclocked Celeron 1500, which beat the AMD Duron 1250 in all benchmarks. Only in interaction with the Intel 815 EPT chipset and at an FSB and memory speed of 125 MHz does the Celeron 1500 show off its true performance. With its factory-set 100 MHz memory speed, the Celeron 1200 runs with the handbrake on. ....
check that out...unofrtunately, it wont be compatible with my mobo...oh well....i should get a new one anywayz....next summer maybe...?

Your grammar is off a bit though... :(
It's a lot different when you actually have to write something out, than to speak it. But your I got the general meaning of it. I don't know about it being not compatible with your MB, wait a bit after it comes out, there may be a slot adapter to correct the problem.
