Working on a friends puter I noticed that the mouse was verry jurkey and slugish, my first thought was to defrag, trid this and defrag wouldn't even start up, hitting ctrl+alt+del to close defrag I seen 17 different files in the menu, I removed several frome the start menu and this helped some, I seen a post not to long ago on how to remove everything except exploror and systray by del some string's in regedit, can someone tell me where to locate said string's so I can get rid of all this crap @ startup. PS. I manualy closed down everything but the two formentioned and defrag works fine and mouse is once again smothe.
I don't know about the registry but you can disable almost everything with msconfig.

Sound's good to me, how would I go about doing that?
Go to Start-->Run--> type in MSCONFIG and the MS Configuration Utility will come up. Go to the last tab at the top and you will get a list of all the programs that start up with that computer with a check box to the left of it.
Just uncheck those programs not needed when booting or any duplicates that might be in there.
Be sure not to remove anything that is system dependant like systray, registry monitor, etc.

You can use Regcleaner to delete the actual entry in the startup. its under startup list.
