I just put some thermal paste on my cpu, do I need to wait for it to dry? Also when I put thermal paste on my t-bird, do I need to aviod the core, or does it not matter? thanks

It does not dry, lol if it did, your in trouble :D

Nah but yeah its not supposed to dry, so you can put the HSF on 2 seconds after the Thermal Paste, or 2 Weeks, and it shouldnt matter.

Man you really don't sound like you know enough to be messing with stuff like this. Check this guide out here, I know it's for Artic Silver but it covers just about any thermal compound aplication

well it was either not use my computer or put a new HSF on it. I just have never installed a new HSF before. And my computer is not overclocked

You did put it on the core, right? Not on the ceramic? The sound of your post leads me to believe that you put it on the ceramic.

Oh no, not on the ceramic. It sounds the same to me. You certainly want to put it on the core and only the core. The reason you only apply it on the core is because this is the part where you want the heattransfer to take place - otherwise you may as well put paste all over your machine.

As mentioned by Phil, check out his link.

no the reason I was asking about puting it on the core is for my next computer I am going to build. the computer I have know is a k6-3. I knew where to put it from the funky stuff that compac put on it. That was also the reason I was aking if I should let it dry, because the stuff compac put on it was dry and was a werid blue color. Now I am not using a compac, I'm just using the cpu of the old compac my parents gave me:D

Do NEVER put Thermalpaste on any other part of the CPU but the CORE.
Some paste is electrically conductive and could easily fry your CPU when u apply it to the bridges etc..
