First HDD ive bought from them. Got myself a 7200.7 Cuda. Spent hours fearing my mobo/CPU was dead. Turned out I got myself a DOA HDD from Newegg

Atleast the CPU is ok. Just want to spread the word

One DOA hard drive does not mean that Seagate is an overall bad company.

Sentential, you should learn to relax and take things from an objective point of view, instead of generalizing using single instances.

Anyhow, good luck with your RMA.

yupper my first seagate was a 80gb SATA on my first build, DOA and it was retail LOL. I RMA'd it went and got a MAXTOR and never looked back, I own 3 Maxtor's 2 IDE's and a SATA, no probs yet

Very true but they wasted hours of my time. Sure it would be one thing if I eventually got a DOA hdd. But come on, this is the first one. Course its gonna leave a bad taste in my mouth....

Btw, this was an OEM purchased on ChiefValue, the 120GB version.

Thanks tho, I hope this RMA goes smoothly as well. Most importantally my CPU is ok. Thats what matters most!

Best way to test if the hdd is dead (or at least what I do) is to hook it up to an external enclosure, power it up somewhere quiet and see if the hard drive stops spinning and then starts again. If it doesn't ever stop spinning then give the hard drive a little shaky shake ;) That's what I always do to ensure a dead hdd or not.

Also, in the meantime, you may be able to revive it for now. Stick it in a bag and vacuum seal it as good as possible, then wrap that tight in some tin foil and put it in your freezer for 4-6 hours (make sure it's away from anywhere that builds up lots of condensation).

My two Barracuda's are probably the part of my rig i like most. Silent, fast, large, reliable.

I will surely buy seagate again.

I just bought a 300gb ide 7200.8 a couple weeks ago. I'd hate for that one to die! I formatted it and then took it out. I just got an external enclosure so it's going to be sleeping in there for a while. :)

I have used 4 Seagate drives in this computer, my new one, my sister's, and my ps2. Seagate all the way. Quiet as all heck, fast, reliable. After Seagate I'd choose WD, but WD's are louder and you can actually hear them spinning.

Meh, maybe this is more of my bad luck swinging round. Ill give egg a call today. Frankly all I want is a replacement, ie one that works.

Pfew. I'd be upset seeing you spew anger around about my beloved HDD brand :p
