View Full Version : problem setting up router
I just got our highspeed internet conection setup last night for our house out in the bonnies. I got it working on my laptop right by the wire. However I wanted to install a router and setup with the network. Unplugged everything, pulgged the wire comming from the radio into my laptop. Then I plugged the radio into the router and plugged the laptop into the router. Started to do setup, cloned the mac address, started opening ports, then I turned on the wireless acces point feture so I could use my laptop wirelessly.
After that things went screwy.
The config page said to go to 192.168.2.254 (wireless config page.) So I did. I got done there and wanted to go back to the router config. (192.168.2.1) but it would not let me. I tried resetting the router, running the router setup cd (that gives me the error of can not commuicate with router.) Don't know what to do. the router is a Belkin Wireless G router.
Got to go to work now, any help would be great, thanks.....
On my network I can't access either my router from the wireless, have to be physicaly hooked up for some reason. What are you referring to when you say "radio"?
Should'nt it be the radio/modem? into the router into the laptop?
this part is confusing: "pulgged the wire comming from the radio into my laptop. Then I plugged the radio into the router and plugged the laptop into the router."
those seem like weird i.p. addresses for the router, usually they are like 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.1 or a combo of the two, i think my d-link router is like 192.168.1.0 if im not mistaken. but also, you might not be able to reach the router wirelessly b/c you need to be logged onto your wireless network. its a safety and security feature so no one can steal your internet signal.
also i would check with your broadband provider to make sure that the belkin is compatible, b/c at my work our dsl and cable isnt compatible with belkin, and belkin always tells the customer to tell us to put the modem into bridge mode, which i would like a belkin tech to tell me how to do that, b/c we'll still havent figured that one out sinse theres no software or hardware changes we can do to make that happen.
also, personally, i would stay away from belkin, hence you can see i dont like their techs from my above statement, yeah they are the chepest out there, but i feal you suffer qualiy and support when you purchase them. just my 2cents.

Some ISPs don't like routers on residential accounts, the first time I set one up here at my mom's we had to call them and explain that it was only for a desktop and laptop to share the connection.
Got it all figured out. I was able to find on some website a way to do a hard reset of the router and got everything back to stock. The Router IP address are correct. Straight out of the manual. What had happend was that I had turned the router into a wireless access point and turned off the router feature. Did not know that at the time though.
Sorry if I was a little un clear at the time. Just had gotten back from work, was going to bed then going back for a 3rd shift overtime and was kind of tired.
