how much of an increase in performance from my radeon will I get if I add 256mb more ram? how much increase in 3dmark01?

in terms of FPS, none. it might give you a higher score in 3dmark.

but even in overall system performance, if your running a win9x OS then it wont make any difference at all. the 9x series(including ME) dont manage ram effectively, making anything over 256mbs literally a waste. that changes if you go to 2k/XP though.....much better memory management, so basically the more ram the better.

still, unless your getting hickups in your gaming now...it wont make much of a difference. in terms of performance....it depends more on the graphics core speed and memory bandwidth(of course system memory bandwidth makes a difference too).

You also have to remember, that usable ram tops out at about 384. After that, ram isn't utilized properly, or enough, to warrant getting it.

yea and if you're running Windows 98 then 256MB ram is almost the at the peak!
adding any more won't make much of a difference!

thanks guys, I am glad i changed to win2000, seem to me like a much better os. i'll add more ram when I get the money.

oh yeah, crucial doesn't have CL 2 ddr? I only see 2.5...any idea?

you can always set up a ramdrive, i was gonna, but i think it only works with win98....
