View Full Version : Ebay Etiquette Question
Who rates first?? The buyer or the seller?
I usually end up the first one to give the rating :/

as a seller i won't rate the person until they rate me. you never know what can go wrong from the time you recieve the money and ship your item.
Since I'm usually a buyer, I'll wit until I get everything and check it out. If I'm happy, I say so.
If I have waited a while, and see nothing, I say that, too.
If I'm going to leave a nasty feedback, I'll wait until the seller has posted, to do it. That way, I can keep my perfect record going.

BAH! LOL, I purchased an item with the "Buy Now" option. Paid instantly. After 5 days, I emailed them asking when they were going to post a feedback. They replied with, "We normally do not leave feed back until it is left for us". They also went on to say that they, would indeed, leave me a feed back first, which they did.
That's BS, and I told them so! I did leave them a positive feed back, because they deserved it. But I paid instantly. What my feed back for them is, should not have a thing in this world to do with what their feed back is for me.
I paid instantly, but lets say it took them 2 weeks to send me my item. I have every right to leave negative feed back. Does that, then, give them the right to leave me bad feed back? Of course not.
When I sell on ebay, most of the time I leave feedback first, since I fully disclouse any defects damage missing stuff, don't sell crap, and don't wait 2 weeks to ship, I have nothing to worry about.

well there's also the way that people handle things... say you send someone something and they're not happy with it, or it gets lost and insurance covers it, or whatever... **** happens

I sold some stuff for the first time on Ebay a few days ago. I awaited payment and got it via Paypal. Then I sent the stuff and left them feedback.

I think it should be the seller that gives first. If the person pays promptly, you ship the item and leave them good feedback. As a seller your job is over after you send the package out. I am a buyer 99.9% of the time and I pay within 3 days of the auction every time unless it is a MO. There are sellers out there that take forever to ship and dont leave feedback just so they can give you a negative even if you leave just a neutral. I read a thread where SSS posted about a seller like that.

When I sell I leave it first. Mainly I don't worry about negatives because I tell the truth about items and give the right shippin amount.

As a seller, I wait for them as well.
Why? Because what happens if they get the product, say "It's broken!" even after I tested it before selling, then send it back, and I find out it works?
What about if the shipper loses it, and the buyer blames me? Then I have every right to say "The shipping company lost the package, insurance covered it. He unreasonably demanded a full refund as well as his product"
or something like that, and I would leave negative feedback.
