It is because you're trying to create a way to basically play burned games without a mod chip which is illegal. I don't see the harm in discussing it though, as its near impossible to do.

Discussing math is one thing. Discussing burned games is quite another. How you could seperate the two at this point is beyond me but for crying out loud, the whole thing is designed to take many years of brute force. And what I see just on the first page of that is not even a decent shortcut for brute force.

I don't think it's illegal. I don't even own a console and I find this pretty intriguing. It's not like I'd use this information, but I find it really interesting how others learn to knock down walls.

Developers in the emulation scene will continue to reverse engineer a console untill they 'crack' it. This article isn't specifically about emulation, but it's basically the same idea.

It takes them a long, long time in most cases, but they almost always succeed eventually. We see most video game consoles emulated to some playeable degree on our PCs by the time the next generation of console hits the market.

Illegal or otherwise, the amount of effort and programming skill involved is quite fascinating.

EDIT: These XBOX guys should contact the Prime95 guys if they're still looking for a list of all the Prime numbers. I'm pretty sure they'd have a list somewhere.

read carefully and while what they are attempting is legally dodgy they are attempting to break a copy protection system, they are talking about it in relation to xbox linux and xbox media center, not playing burned games (other than tux racer).
