Check out VMware's workshop http://www.vmware.com/news/events/seminars/corporate/

I know I'll be going to learn about VMware If my parrents will take me. Heck the free copy of Workstation 5 is good too.

Niot free at all; take into account the implicit costs.

The seminar requires 3.5 hours of time during the morning (8:30 - 12:00). Something is forgone in attending. Simplified example, with a hourly wage as a next best alternative: Working during the morning $7.00 per hour (after taxes) is earned. Forgoing 3.5 hours of work (assuming fractional hours may be forgone) would be to forgo $24.50 of wage.

$24.50 dollars is not free. VMWare Workstation 5 may merely be attain at a lower cost (depending on one's value of time) by going to the seminar and recieving VMWare Workstation 5.

Ok, but you could probably get $200 bux on ebay by selling it.

Thats over $25 an hour- not worth it if you are a professional typle, but for people who make less than $15 an hour, its a good deal.

Or if you're me, you get your employer to give you a half paid day off to go. :)

I run VMWare 5 at work, sweet piece of software, I like it better than Virtual PC. I run cluster environment of W2k, 2003, Liniux, Sun Solaris, MSSQL databases, just give yourself a lot of RAM

The key is to have a job where you are on the company's dime to go to these types of events, so you can get the software for free and you are still getting paid for it. That is what I do...

Precisely. I got to go to the AMD Tech Tour last fall on the company's dime and am going to this VMware shindig on the company's dime as well. So long as it's remotely computer related, I think I can get the free pass from the boss. :)
