ok, i went and found a bunch of old 486 heatsinks, and im gonna use em to mod my radeon. cut a few into ramsinks, and use one+fan for a gpu cooler.

actually, the stock hsf shouldnt even have the "hs" part in it. all the air is blowing on is a flat piece of metal....no fins at all, i cant see how thats effective.

anyways....i wanna know how to attach all these things. i know ASTE is the preferred method, but......the cheapest way to get that here is $25. i dont really feel like getting that for $25.

are there any other better alternatives? i have some JB weld here.....would that work, or would it be just a completely stupid idea? id just rather not pay $25 +shipping for this(kinda doesnt make the mod worth it....).

also...what exactly do the manufacturers use for thermal epoxy(if anyone knows)?

Let me know how it all turns out, I am just getting into the vid card overclocking. I have been given a couple of suggestions , when you finish send me some digital pix if ya can to sunfire@chek.com.

I am interetsed in sharing ideas or getting some tips from you!!!

Whoo Hoo cause this Radeon 64 ddr has got to last me for a while till the 8500 come down in price......

will do.

dont have a digital camera, but ill be using my handycam with the video in on this card(or...god forbid, this one dies...my aiw pro). wont be digital quality, but good enough.

first i gotta cut the heatsinks for the ramsinks, then i gotta lap everything........i just need advice on what i should use to attach everything.

that ASTE is expensive!

You could use small drops of super glue on the corners of each chip (core, ram)

and use regular AS II in the middle. Worked good for me, at least on the memory

I would strongly advice you not to use something like JBweld to put that stuff on with. I doubt very seriously its very good at transfering heat. Probably the cheapeast and easiest is just the super glue on the corners.

my question is, why do you feel the need to mod a radeon.....

why do people mod other cards? why do people use watercooling? why do people overclock? why do poeple mod their cases?

none of those things are "needed"......but hey, im a tweaker. the reason i wanna mod my card? cuz ill have fun doing it, and it will cool my card down(ever touch the ram on those things? it burns your finger!).

Hear's an idea of what modding your Radeon can do for the aesthetics of your computer.

heh, true the only reason i ever mod my stuff is for superior performance, and i thought those radeons ran cool.......of course i done mod as pretty as kingslayer....got some crappy 486 hs right now.....

im not really going for looks, just wanna keep it nice and cool.....this card runs kinda hot(not near as hot as my old voodoo3), and im sure that ram would clock higher if it had ramsinks on it.

actually....as far as looks go, i think it will turn out pretty nice.the hs for the gpu is a nice gold colour....and the ramsinks will look alright too.

k, i dont think ill go for the JB weld route(especially since if i do, and it doesnt work....itll be a bitch to get off). so super glue, does that hold well? sure dont want that hsf to just fall off in the middle of an intense game of UT while the core is running at 250:)

Ya superglue/epoxy in the corners will hold on real tight.

It might be a pain to get off , but why would you wanna go and do that :")

I only paid $5 for my Blorb. And that top one isnt blue. If it's not blue, it's not worth it.

Kingslayer the top one is a rackmount IU low profile orb and will outperform the blue orb as its slightly larger and has higher CFM..... Not being blue has absolutly nothing to do with anything :p

I think Kingslayer just likes the color blue=/
