Got XP on my laptop, was wondering how I could convert database to NTFS , from fat32 windows 98 SE . Upon install I was never given option to convert database.

Is NTFS a better compression? Also can I revert back to Win98SE, (previous os) without having to format. I have searcehed in XPO but have not come across anything like this?

go to start menu, type this: convert *: /fs:ntfs

(*=the drive you want to convert)

if the drive you want to convert is your system drive, it will ask you if you want to force dismount....choose no, it will then ask you if you want to convert at the next restart...choose yes. next reboot, it will convert.

Get Partition Magic. It can change the format of your disk without losing data. Go from FAT32 to NTFS and back again.

Win98 will not work with NTFS (2000 and XP only)

*Note - I'm reading the Partition Magic stuff from the box. I've never done it yet*

What would be the gain in a Personal computer by converting from Fat32 to NTFS?

with ntfs you don't get the slowdown as you would with fat32 when you have a bunch of stuff on your hd. plus, it runs alot smoother than fat 32

Basically, the main advantage is security. You can apply security to folders and files in NTFS, ie not let other people who use the machine access to your stash of .........:D. The smooth running is just a bonus.........
