ASUSTeK Computer is showcasing a mainboard based on yet unreleased Intel 945P chipset which is believed to be designed for performance-mainstream PCs.

ASUS’ P5LD2 Deluxe has two PCI Express x16 slots and officially supports multi-GPU setups, such as NVIDIA SLI, which, in case such mainboards are affordable enough, will enable platforms supporting two graphics cards for customers in budget.

ASUS’ P5LD2 Deluxe mainboard sports LGA775 chips with up to 800MHz processor system bus, up to 4GB of dual-channel DDR2 memory at 667MHz, two PCI Express x16 slots, one PCI Express x1 slot and three PCI slots. The mainboard provides Serial ATA II and Parallel ATA connectors, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, may be equipped with a WLAN module as well as sports other modern interfaces.

Intel’s 945P, 945G and derivative chipsets are Intel’s this year family of high-performance core-logic sets that will support 800MHz and 1066MHz processor system bus, dual-channel 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Intel’s new GMA950 graphics core (i945G only), Serial ATA II with some new RAID modes by the new ICH7 I/O controller and numerous other enhancements.

Intel’s 945-series and 955-series chipsets are the company’s only core-logic products that support dual-core Intel Pentium Extreme Edition processors and Intel Pentium D chips. The Intel 955X-based platforms are already available, whereas Intel 945 chipset family and supporting mainboards are expected to be announced later this month.

Why would they do that, it's a** backwards, something doesn't seem right, and I want a new board that supports Multi-GPU and Dual-Core CPU.

One thing is clear, the 945 doesn't offer the possibility to use up to 8 GB of memory and neither support ECC memory or MPT.
Well, I guess it's all about the speed and the stability :P 955x uses better chips and offers higher speed compared to Intel’s 925XE platform as well as Intel’s 945 chipsets, certainly allowing better overclockability.

Notice that now (at least on this board) they list the Wifi TV card as optional at the top of the page and also in RED lettering below the explination of the feature.

As a matter of fact, it's there since the very first appearance on the site (but that did not occur with the P5WD2). And at the description of Ai Life Series, you can also read:
AI Life Series motherboards bring lifestyle and personal computing together. They entertain you with TV, radio and Dolby support, and link you to the rest of the world via wireless connection (WiFi-TV bundle edition only).

Here you have a good review featuring ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe:
Great features (note that the WiFi-TV card is optional), stability and good performance. I must say I am impressed. Let's just see how much we'll have to pay to get one of those.

The P5WD2 Premium does support two GPUs for upto four displays, i'm just not shure if the P5WD2 Premium supports SLI, but you do get a GT Soft Bridge with the P5WD2 Premium package so maybe there are plans for a BIOS update to support SLI.
