in March of this year I purchased a Seagate St380021A 80G 8M drive

after installing it I always noticed it was slow so I ran drive tach on it

71.04ms
4.3MBS

I was like wtf so I called seagate,,

Yup drive is defective send me to Customer Support for an RMA...

so customer supports asks model/serial info

then tells me...

the WARRANTY on your drive expired on 9/04 I was like WTF

I told them my reciept says I got this drive on March 05

so now the fight is on...

:bang head

doesn't matter, they warranty the drive for so long, I mean yes it doesn't seem fair, but who did you buy it from, I would question them as to why they are selling old merchindise.

so lets say you bought a brand new 2005 model car as the 2006's were coming out
then have a problem with it and they tell you "sorry the 1 year warranty is up"

you'd go berzerk on them.....

I have no idea why they had it, but it had 3 year warranty on my reciept so someone better take care of this for me... (even tho Seagate said it has a 1 year) hmmmmmm

got it from a major store too, wont say which tho till I get this straightened out

:)
