This is on my mom's desktop, Compaq Presario. Mouse is an IBM optical MO27FO.

Every so often, the mouse will freeze and sometimes not even be recognized by Windows (no power). It's a USB mouse; disconnecting and reconnecting it gets it working again. I've reinstalled the drivers and that doesn't help much. All I've been able to do is to swap it to one of the front USB ports so it's easier to reach if it has to be unplugged again. It also gets very slow/sticky at times, but that may just be the mousepad (old Fellowes fabric deal that has tons of cat hair on it).

Methinks the inside is messed up. Like the USB wires not making complete contact with the PCB all the time or the cord got kinked enough to break one of the wires.
