When will the constant "two times better than what we just came out with" technology end?

Like im flippin trying to upgrade here but I just want to wait because I want something that will last for 4 years. But if I do I am afraid like ATI or Nvidia going like ya we are going to make it 4 times faster than that or some other flipping BS.

So anyone know when I should stop worrying?

Like i will upgrade when it is a small increase in performace, but if it is like double the card id be like ****....

never gonna happen, because then companies won't make there moneu. Its called planned obselescence. The make the old product seem pitiful, so you buy the newest.

Its basically the same as the big computer boom back in 96' where everyone and there mother bought computers. Every 6 months they were instantly out of date and cpu speeds nearly doubled every 6-8 months. Video cards are going through that heavily right now and I have a feeling they might be for a little longer.

I believe though that after this next round of cards they are going to slow down a bit unless DX10 comes out soon. But then again I have a feeling DX is going to die off soon and something is going to come along to replace it that will handle lighting better and be more optimized for dual core because video cards are going to be going that way within a few years.

Yes I understand that but i mean like it is comming out so soon and it is like double the orginal. Like it is ok when x800 came out and then the x850 with the little performance increase. that is what i mean by little increase. But when they talk about a new card comming out double the performace of a x850, Im like damn WTF i just got an x850 and it sucks you know.

So basically WHEN THE FACK SHOULD I UPGRADE!!!!

Until you stop worrying... Most CPU's can't keep up with next gen video cards, so it doesn't really matter.... Its NEVER gonna stop coming, so if you keep thinking this way, you are gonna be stuck with what you have asking the same question all the time.

I'm pretty sure the 9700 Pro was that time, since the release of that card it took 3-4 years for the next generation of cards to finally come out. Sure the 9800pro and XT's came out and blah blah blah but they didn't offer anywhere close to 'twice' the performance as the 9700Pro. In my opinion there wont be another '9700' agenda again for a few years since ATI and Nvidia will probably release next gen cards (I dont know what you consider next gen... but the new cards offered from both manufacturers will most liley utilize dual core technology) within 12-18 months if not sooner since they are placing those in the upcoming next gen consoles.
If you plan on upgrading now then I'd do it. Buy an X800XT AGP for 400$ and then wait the year or longer to upgrade 'EVERYTHING' since not everything right now is completely next gen.
if you already have that card or an X800 generation of cards just WAIT

^^ yeah9700 pro was awesome, I think that the R520 core will be similar as it uses new architecture rather then the Xxxx cards which are still based on the 9700/9800, and then in another 4 years we will get a new architecture
