i am getting this processor for my asus cusl2-c. i have a gladiator heatsink. any idea of what o/c to expect? should i use my copper shim, will it really make that much of a diff in temp and such?
I've had two cD0 P3 1GHz and both could do 1.2GHz easily except for my RAID controllers. They just couldn't handle the bus speed to get there. One I had to RMA and received a cC0 stepping chip which runs happily at 1.125GHz.
The cD0 is currently at 1.125GHz as well and at default voltage. I have a TheroEngine w/Delta fan on it and my temps are quite good even though I don't run the A/C on in the house. Tops out around 39C on the hottest days. Otherwise, it hangs around 35-36C on my VP6.
It's a pretty good chip. If your PCI/AGP devices and memory can handle high bus speeds then you should be able to get 1.2GHz no problem with good cooling.
Good luck!
