I want to get more air moving through my case for my K6-2. I've little room left for fans, here are my only two choices I can think of.

1) Put my ps unit upside down so the circut board is on the top and then cut a hole in the new "bottom" of the ps unit and put my 92mm fan on there so it sucks air from the case into the ps unit and then the 80mm fan that's already there blows the air out the case. The 92mm fan is roughly 90cfm @ 39 decibels.

2) Take the fan that originally came with my K6-2 and put it on the back of the case to blow air out the back. The K6 fan is 9cfm @ 25 decibels.

Here are some pictures to help illustrate. This one is the fan lined up with the ps unit:

And here is roughly how it would look once the power supply is upside down and the fan is inside the case:

Here's the small fan lined up on the outside of the case:

And finally how the small fan would look inside the case:

Anyone got any suggestions?

It might help, but I don't think it would be a good idea to put a 98cfm fan on one side of your psu and 40cfm or something fan on the other. If you do that, you might just get rid of the 80mm fan.

Did you consider puting the fan on the side/top(couldn't tell, the side that comes off above the mobo), It would move more air than going through the psu, plus you would still have the fan in the psu moving air.

By the way, are you sure thats a 92mm, 98cfm at 39dBA? I got a 92mm delta and it pushes 58cfm @ 38dBAs. If so, thats a nice fan, what brand may I ask?

what size case is that?

back when i had a mini-tower with the PS in i was getting some reallly bad temps....its a huge obstruction to the heat coming right off the cpu

i took it out...duct taped it to the top of my case....and temps dropped CONSIDERABLY (5+C)

No room on top, the case is so small that the ps and the cd rom only have about 1.5 inches between them. I think I will put it on the side, although the removing of the ps sounds interesting. The brand of fan is NMB, I tried to look the fan up on their site but the one I have isn't listed anymore but based on comparing part numbers, dimensions, voltages, wattages, cfms and decibelage info listed on their site for other fans and what info is on my fan's label I consider 90cfm @ 39 decibels to be a good approximation. That assumes the info at their site is accurate. The model below mine is rated at 83cfm @ 37 dec, the model above mine is listed at 97cfm @ 41 dec. If you want to check them out they're here (http://www.nmbtech.com). They've even got fans that are rated to outperform the 235cfm fan by Comair Rotron!

Note this is not a sales pitch. I don't work for them and they aren't offering me any kickbacks, its just info.

*** Clarification: Yes I was sure but also I was also wrong. I was mixing up stats for my 92mm fan and my 120mm fan that I put on the front of that case. The 120mm fan is ~90cfm @ ~39decibels. The 92mm fan, the one which I was trying to figure out where to place, is 48cfm @ 37decibels. Sorry people,:( my bad.
