As you all know, if you right-click on a .ttf file and click on open it gives you the 'quick brown fox...bla bla bla' screen, showing you what the font looks like.
Well, it doesn't here, or at least not anymore.
I had to install Corel MegaGallery to use one of their stock-art pics. It then sneakily installed a font-viewer as well (which didn't work at all btw). After using the app, I wanted to uninstall it...no uninstall routine. tried adding/removing software, but it couldn't find it !!
Anyway, i got mad, threw everything I could find out and thought I was rid of it.. But know, when i try to open a font in the above manner, it says:
The requested file.....was not a valid font file.
So I did some deep-sea diving in the registry, looking for all referrals to fontview.exe and finally found one where it said megagaller..replaced it with fontview.exe, but the problem remains... I can't think of anything else..anyone clever enough to figure a way out please????
One thing you can try. Go HERE (http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/tweakui2000.shtml) and download TweakUI2000. To install it, right-click on TWEAKUI.INF, and select Install from the Context menu. Once installed, there will be a TweakUI icon in your control panel. Select Repair, then Repair Font Folder. TweakUI is a Microsoft product, and originally came with the Win98 Resource Kit and then with the Win2K Resource Kit, in case you are uncomfortable trying it. Hope this helps you out.

...Now why didn't I think of that...duh... I know TweakUI, I used it in Win98 a lot...sometimes the most obvious solutions are the hardest to find.. I'll try it and let you know, thanks for the reply!

That didn't solve it... I downloaded it, installed it, ran the font folder repair, still the same problem...This is getting very annoying...
hey you could also go to the font folder(C:/WINNT/FONTS) and right click any offending font, bring up the properties, check the opens with file(which has been hijacked) and click on change and navagate over to windows font viewer(C:/windows/system32) and change to that which "should" fix your problem. you can use this approach to change any hijacked file association as well as the set to default or edit from the folder option | filetypes snapin.
You should poke around and check out your file associations just to get a better understanding of your system.

That was one of the first things I tried, of course. But even with Fontview.exe set as the standard app. for opening ttf files, the problem remains.
u could try this, it could work, uninstall an ms font intensive program (like office) and then reinstall it, it should reset system defaults for u and repair misassociations. i would guess that you already went to the folder options/file types/ ttf -went to advanced and checked and saw what it was that is listed for opening and other actions, also try setting default from there, also try deleting then resetting the action settings from there. u could also go 3rd party and install like ACDC 4+ and end all your viewing problems. it (4+)is a clean program and will open most any image file.
good luck, please post what works, always looking to learn
