Hey guys,

The stock gigabyte cooler sucks. It sounds like there is sand in it or something! It grinds, whistles, whines, crunches, chirps....just about all the bad things you can think of :)

I am using two 6600GT's and I can't spend the money on a NV silencer....I just need something cheap for now. What do you guys think ice the iceberq?

I would have suggested to Epoxy a stock Intel or AMD heatsink... but with 2 GTs... space is tight... so.. I don't know...

I don't think that's big enough IMO, but maybe someone with a 6600GT can answer... that looks awfully small though.

Ummmm dude.... 6600s are as hot as a 9800. Would YOU put that on a 9800XT?

That thing is dinky for them hot running Gigabyte cards.

Dang....answers that question! Any other suggestions aside from an NV silencer?

I'd just hold off until you can afford a silencer....... why risk your cards?

I'm not sure exactly how much room you have but this seems like a nice cheap full size cooler. Although, I've never seen any reviews on it and you'll have to check for compatibility.

SVC Cooler Master (http://www.svc.com/vhc-l61-u1-19.html)

Currently on sale too.

I'm looking to get this one when I get some money.

checkout westlines sig. he had a guide to a BEAUTIFUL ghetto amd axp hsf mod for 6600gts in sli. i think he used the dynatron c62 or something like that, they are ten bucks a piece, and only need slight drilling to get em nice and sturdy on that core.

I thought of removing the fan. Drill some holes into the sink itself, then mount. You might have to use some of them crappy nylon-springy retainers. The second option I brain stormed was realy small nuts wiht a pass through bolt.

Before I went with the Zalman I was trying my best to get something on my card. I don't have the clearance issues you have. I did think for all the nice boards GB makes, they have yet to get a fan right or heatsink. I had two(stock GB fans) go out in the past couple of days.

You can probably just epoxy it on...

I was looking at those SVC coolers....but I am pretty sure they are too large. There just isn't enough room in there :(

Going to look at westlines sig right now.

im thinking of doing the mod with those hsf's for my 6600gt agp card. i dont know how the hsi bridge is gonna interact with it, but i might as well give her a go!

Yeah the HSI has been an issue for me, and cooling for a bit now. I had to wait for a good deal on a Zalman. :D Got a VF700AlCu for $20(with tax) new. I was going to use that low profile CPU cooler to reduce the stress the larger HS will put on an usupported card. Every time I see a sweet mod with a 6600GT and a large HS I see that bow. I think a low profile HS would reduce the cantalever effect somewhat. You would also get more airflow between a dual setup also.

Westline does have a nice setup though.

You could always save up some money and do it right - by getting 2 STASIS IceStorms and HSI heatsinks! :santa:

http://www.xoxide.com/logisys-all-copper-vga-cooler.html or the Vantec Iceburg 5 cooler, seem to be big enough to dissapate all that heat. Personally I am a fan of the Zalman VF700-CU Copper VGA Cooler, but the silencer is proven to be really good. You're best bet is looking for an Xoxide.com x-hour or a sale somewhere if you cannot afford one. Either that or sell some stuff/babysit/temp job to pay for the silencers. Just some ideas.
