I'm going to make a new computer pretty soon and I'm thinking about a

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
DFI LanParty nForce4 SLi-D
BFG 6800gt
OCZ 1gb(512x2) Platinum Revision 2 PC3200
2x WD 36gb Raptor SATA
Lian-Li v1200b
OCZ Powerstream 520
Plextor DVD-RW
XP120(with Delta Tri-Blade probably)

Missing Anything?

Looks great, i would spring for 1 74gb raptor over two 36's but thast me, in fact i dont even use my 74 for anything but testing and benches, to loud and i dont see any real perforamnce improvement over my DM10 16mb cache drive.

1cem4n & infinitevalence:Very Interesting Reading

If your considering purchase of either of the Raptors (or Maxtor or Seagate)
these two Reviews are full of very real preformance differances and comparissions. With the exception of two test the two Raptors show thier superiority. However thier are specific differances in the Raptors. Its worth a close read.

Good Luck

Thanks Guys, I'm thinking about just getting one 74gb raptor and RAID it with another one later down the road when prices drop.

yes, thats what i meant. I've heard people are just getting the 3000+ venice and overclocking but I'd rather overclock a 3200+ to at least 2.6ghz.

Why not get some UTT RAM like Mushkin Redline? Also RAID-0 is a waste.

If you haven't gotten the hint by now, we'll spell it out for you: there is no place, and no need for a RAID-0 array on a desktop computer. The real world performance increases are negligible at best and the reduction in reliability, thanks to a halving of the mean time between failure, makes RAID-0 far from worth it on the desktop.

I would just get a single 74GB Raptor or a larger Seagate drive. I would also get an XP-90C with Panaflo 92mm fan.

Because I can OCZ ram at insane discounts from a friend's mom. I am going with the 74gb but a RAID can be quite fast in a mid-range setup. 2x 80gb will beat a 160gb drive anyday of the week providing they are both 7,200 rpm.

In artifical benchmarks RAID may look great, but there are no real world performance benefits. It's just a waste of money. The reduction in relaiability makes it even more of a waste of money.

Just a heads up...

New OCZ Platinum Rev 2 is NOT TCCD. All new sticks are made with TCC5 :-/

I'd try some different sticks if I were you. Trust me, I'm in the same boat. At the moment, I'm trying to decide between OCZ Gold Bh or G. Skill Bh.

I disagree that raid 0 is a waste but there is a thread on that....

I have a link of real world RAID0 Tests that show it is almost no improvment over single drive.

http://www.overclockers.com/articles1063/

I have also done tests on 2 of my computers (one with SCSI and one with IDE). I have tested the stripe size and single drive vs raid0 in real world use. This means game loading and app loading, which is stuff that i do. and RAID0 provided very little performance increase.

And after all that here I am still running RAID0 on my 2 main computers.

Im hopefully going to get the TCCD version soon. Its going to be sweet with my new setup coming soon also! Id like to hear from you when you get it so that i know what to expect. The system im building is in my sig.

Good luck with your setup!
