I have a question here...I get to choose a Pentuim 3 for my B-day which is comin up really soon. So i was debating on a 933 or 1000 P3. Which one is better, which one is better to OC, and if neither of them are not good, can you guys recommend a good P3.
thanks guys

Neither really. The best is probably the 700. The 933 and 1000 has too high a multiplier to get any major results. The 700 has the best results considering its price. If you check the database on the front page, you can get some more specific numbers
PIII 1000 average - 1173
PIII 933 average - 1081
PIII 700 average - 955

Just try to pick up a nice 100Mhz fsb one around 700MHZ.
By any chance can your board take the new tualatin core? If so the new celeron 1200 is out and it has 256k cache, .13 micron, heat spreader, and will do at least 1500-1600Mhz from what I heard. You board has to be compatable though.

lol,actually a lot of people have gotten their 1ghz eb's up around 1200mhz,and a 933eb is identical to a 700e oc'ed to a 133mhz fsb they both have a multiplier of 7.

whats the difference with coppermine and tualatin and how do i find out if my mobo can take that new tualatin core
thanks
if you want a pretested cpu, you should checkout www.pcnut.com

If it was my b-day I would get an Intel Pentium III 1.2 Tualatin CPU. Only take this route if you own a Mobo that can support it. It has been know to beat the P4 in a few tests. Just a thought!:D

Fellas there is a PIII 1000E out there that is overclocking easy to 1240. Ebola has one. Price about $159.00. I'll edit with thread reference shortly. The thread is on this page titled 1240 and Rising, submitted by Ebola.

Considering it's price and overclocking ability, the 700 is a pretty good investment. Most can hit 933 easily, and at $60 less than a 933. The average is about a 36% overclock The 933 gets about a 16% average overclock. The 1000 get about 17%.
Considering its price of $85 compared to $145 and $164 it's overclocking percent average, the 700 is a fairly good choice. If you don't care about spending the extra money, go all out for the 1000 or a Tualatin. If you want a good chip for overclocking at fair price, go for the 700
The P-III 700 cC0 (like I have) USED to be the best bang for your overclocking buck, but those new cD0 CPUs will usually overclock faster (like what Ebola now has). If your motherboard will accept the Tualatin, that's really THE hot ticket right now.
Yup I love my 1000e cdo :)
If you can't get a tualatin then get one of these.

If someone else is going to buy it for you, get the Tualtin.
You will need to spend around a hundred bucks for a new
motherboard, but it would be worth it.

ok thanks guys for all the help and another thingis there a price difference between the coppermine and the tualatin PIII because my limit is $250 for a cpu
If money was not an issue I'd tell ya to get a P3S (tualatin with 512 L2 cache) It overclocks to 1500 pretty easy, and gives a 1.8-1.9GHz P4 a run for its money. Otherwise I'd look for one of the cd0 chips (last coppermine core stepping) They're hitting 1200+

I have a Slot1 P3 1 gig @ 1.2 aircooled with a Alpha with cheap sunon fans, boots up at 1.3, but not stable with current cooling methods.

Yup, and if I remember the post right, Ebola has PC100 ram and he still got 1240! Just think of the possibilities with PC133... 1.33 Ghz+. I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on one of those 1000E's....

hi guys, im running my P3 933EB at 1042mhz with 149 mhz fsb useing a soyo sy-7VBA133U mobo and a stick of 512 PC133. Im also useing a glacial tech hs with stock fan, also, im usieng an icute 301b case, the black one with the 2 blue fans up front and no badgeing, windows at the top and side, with the x-pattern. im running 7 case fans total, plus a cpu fan on the northbridge, and cpu idles at 21, load goes up to 23, and my system idles at 18, goes up to 26 under load. even if those temps are reversed, sometimes i wonder... its still ok, im very happy with this setup for what it is.
What a great old thread... shows what we were doing 3 years ago. I was running a P-III 700 @ 1050 MHz on an Abit SA6-R with like 256 meg of Kingston PC-150 (good running system too). Sure seems like a long time ago.

I actually miss my Slot 1 1000mhz CPU that I'd run at over 1200 in a P3B-F. It was so stable. Also I miss that dual fan Alpha cooler. That thing must have weighed 5 pounds.
The price on those slot 1's sky rocketed last year and I sold it for 200 bucks.

yep, this is a pretty solid machine, ive pretty much got enough cash saved up for the P4 upgrade kit ive had my eyes on for the last couple weeks, since p3 stuff is getting harder and harder to find, i thought i would get all brand new stuff and slap it together, only to put it away for sentimental reasons, heheheh. in another 2-3 weeks, ill be pushing identical numbers as you guys system wise. ive been reading good things about amd64, but thye run so hot, and my system is so cool right now, im kinda leaning towards a prescot, but im going to have to do some more reading first. ever since i saw that old toms hardware video of the amd going up in smoke... i dont know.. well see..
The Prescotts run hot too. If you want a cool running system, then get a Northwood P-4 like the 3.0C.
