hi all,
I was looking through my win98 (SE) directory and I found two folders which I hadn't notcied b4.: C:/Windows/APPLOGS/ and C:/Windows/ESLogs/ . In the first one I found many application logs ,but when opened with wordpad[.lgc file type] there is a long list of number interrupted by the occasional line of text which has a weird random message. What are these numbers? In the second one, I found an html file called eventsystem.html which had a table like thing with weird messages like:
Warning
12/9/2000
17:46:46.160
Event System
4099
The COM+ Event System could not determine the name of the current user. A call to GetUserName returned error code 1245: "The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not logged on to the network. The specified service does not exist. "

uhhh. what? english, please
thaks in advance

The following is information I found on "Applog"...

Applog is a program in Windows 98 and Windows Me used to improve the performance of your computer. It has two functions. The first is to save files to your hard drive in the order they will be needed most. The other is to load files into memory for a program before the program requests them. Here are more details on the process:

Applog keeps track of how you use your computer, as follows:

Which programs you run most often, and how many times you run them.
Which files are loaded by those programs.
In what order those files are loaded.

Applog keeps this information in various log files, such as MSPAINT.LGC, located in the \Windows\Applog folder on your hard drive.

As Applog builds these log files, it sorts the programs you use by how often you use them. Applog will use this information each time you launch a program to determine which files the program needs. Applog will then load the files needed by the program before the program asks for them, in an order designed to speed loading of the program.

When you run a defragmentation program, the defragmenter uses these logs to determine where the files should be placed on the hard drive so that the programs you use most frequently will be saved on a portion of the drive that is quickly accessible.

If you use a defragmenter that has not been written to be compatible with Applog, the defragmenter will not use this sorting order. This will prevent this function of Applog from being effective and may slow down your system.

The folder "Eslogs" and the eventsystem.html file both have something to do with a website called Erotic-Dreams...that's all I could find out about them.;)
