depends on what the error is...

can you read what it says? (something like all caps with underscores for spaces, shown on the top of the BSOD)

I was wondering a silmilar think, where can you find out what the codes mean?

I just got a BSOD before after defragging, all my shortcuts disapeared after i restarted, but then they came back after system restore :D

Here's a program which deciphers Windows error codes for you, without the need to search the MSKB or other sources for an explanation. Available from MajorGeeks here...

MS Windows Error Messages is a small utility that will allow you to look up MS Windows error code numbers and display a descriptive message explaining what the numeric code actually means. If you have software programs that produce numeric error codes now you can find out what they really mean.

MS Windows Error Messages also provides a facility to display and print all of the error codes and messages defined for your version of MS Windows.
