What software to i need to watch dvds??? Windows media says something about region.. I need a region free, free software.. I can't seem to find anything..

well you need a dvd drive, a program that can read dvds, like WinDVD, I think realplayer reads them to.

Yeah, i just meant what software lol.( that wasn't very clear)

very strange that windows media doesnt like it. Look around through graphics card, motherboard, and cd drive driver disks you have, they often include a free DVD playing program, most likely powerdvd or windvd. enjoy

windows media played house of flying daggers, but it wont play flight of the pheonix widescreen...

Media Player Classic should play most DVDs in Windows.

All the DVD Roms I ever purchased had a free copy of Power DVD included. That program along with a little drive saver called DVD Idle has been great! Between those two programs I have never ever had to set the region on the drive

What you are missing for Media Player dvd playback is a decoder. Like everyone said most drives come with win dvd or something similar. If you get the chance try out Dscaler 5 it is a free dvd decoder that works great. For some reason I have never been able to get VLC to play a dvd but if it works for you great
