Has anyone here played Gothic?

I was just wondering if anyone here has downloaded the Gothic Demo. It's made by a German company and it's been out in German for a while so I've enjoyed it. I just wanted to say that this is the BEST EVER action RPG. Try it and you'll be hooked I promise. The graphics, Leveldesign,atmosphere, and gameplay absolutely kill eveything else on the market. It's a pretty big download, about 250MB but if you have a good connection its worth it.

Download it and tell me what you think.

I downloaded it last weekend. So far I think its really good,but I have'nt really got a chance to sit down and play it for a while.

Hmm...been trying it out...cool setting, storyline, etc, but there should be a tutorial for the controls. I mean, is it really necessary that you have to hold down the action button and then press forward to pick something up!? And arming yourself is hell, too, took me ages just to use the pickaxe and then I had to drop everything and re-pick everything up just to arm the sword...

Then I died trying to look in the water for weps, and I hadn't saved, so bleh. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow, but Motor City Online is much better!

I had the same prob with the picking things up. Also the camera
is a little funky when your in a fight.
But still a good game once you get the hang of it.

Bear with the controls guys. I've heard many complaints about them altough I've never had a problem. If you have any qustion just ask. I have the full version. BTW how are the dialogues? I've only heard them in German.

yea, i downloaded the demo last night.

all i know how to do is pick things up

and any enemies i see i can only punch... how in the world do i change weapons????

Yeah, I think that's a question on everyone's mind! How to change weapons...I managed it, at one point, but it was just pressing a whole lot of keys and finally getting a result. The engine is pretty terrible, too...seems to have really bad distance texturing...as soon as you look further than 20 feet in front of you, you might as well be holding up screenshots and changing them by hand...I think it might have had potential, but it got screwed.

You need a pretty fast rig to play. A minimum of 256 MB Ram and a Geforce 2, 1Gig CPU, or higher. Set all the graphics to full detail and the distance settings to 300%

As for controls:

The left ctrl key is by default the "action key"

Forwards: UP Key
Backwards: Down Key
Left/right: LEFT/Right Key

to draw your weapon and go into combat mode press space

To sneak press A

To move the camera or look around use the mouse.

To open your inventory use the TAB key

To speak to NPCs walk up to them and press CTRL+ Arrow Up Key

To change Weapons: Open your Inventory, select new weapon and press CTRL+Arrow Up Key

WHen in combat mode use CTRL+Arrow Keys to swing your sword or shoot your bow or crossbow

1 or 2 to select either the bow or sword you are currently using and go into combat mode.


It sounds complicated but basically you play the whole game using STRG, Space and the arrow keys. It's really easy once you get the hang of it.

im going to have to follow with fuzzball.

the gameplay looks nice, but its the graphics that are in serious need of optimization.

my setup is not that bad..

yet, from what i can tell, it runs pretty bad, it looks like im getting about 15-30 fps.
